Hello everyone, in our Lesson 49, we learnt about the prefix OutOut (Noun & Adjective) represent the meanings outside; outward and Out (verb) represents the meanings greater, betterToday we shall see the prefix over Happy Reading :)

Day 50 : Over

  • Out - too much; completely
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • overact (verb) = to behave in a way that is not natural.
    • over - Prefix = too much
      English Vocabulary on Daily Basis
    • act (actus) - Root = done
  • overdose (verb) = too much of a drug taken at one time.
    • over - Prefix = too much
    • dose (didonal) - Root = give
Let's have a look at some more words with over prefixes, for better understanding.
  • Over bridge - a bridge over a railway or road
  • Over cloud - covered with clouds
  • Overachieve - to do more than you are expected to do
  • Overall - taken as a whole; in all
  • Overbearing - to ovepower someone or to be bossy
  • Overburden - to put to much of a load on something
  • Overcharge - to make somebody pay too much for something.
  • Overdue = not paid or done by the expected time
  • Overestimate - to present something with more value than it actually has
  • Overflow - to fill something more than it needs to be
  • Overload - to put to much of a load on something
  • Overrated - to value something to highly
  • Overreact - to react more than you need to
  • Overstatement - to exagerate/ give something more meaning than it actually has
  • Overweight - heavier than is allowed
  • Overwhelm - to overpower someone with to much of one thing
Home Work :

Try to guess the meanings of the following elements.

  3. -leg
  4. -matri
a. law
b. mother

d. name
