Hello everyone, in our Lesson 48, we learnt about the prefixes Ob, Oc, Of, OpOb, Oc, Of, Op represent the meanings against; towardsToday we shall see the prefix out. Happy Reading :)

Day 49 : Out

  • Out (Noun & Adjective) - outside; outward
  • Out (Verb) - greater; better
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • outdoor (adjective) = used, happening or located outside rather than in a building.
    • out - Prefix = outside
      Vocabulary of English Language
    • door - Root = door; gate
  • outlet (noun) = a way of expressing good use of strong feelings, ideas or energy
    • out - Prefix = away from
    • let - Root = to allow, permission
Let's have a look at some more words with out prefixes, for better understanding.
  • outdated - no longer useful because of being old-fashioned
  • outgrow - grow beyond or too large for
  • outlandish - looking or sounding as if it belongs to a (foreign) land beyond ours; strange
  • outlast - last longer than; outlive;survive
  • outlook - looking ahead or beyond; prospect for the future
  • outperform - to achieve better results than somebody or something
  • outpouring - a large amount of something produced in a short time
  • output - yield or product; amount produced
  • outrun - run faster than
  • outsource - obtain (goods or a service) by contract from an outside supplier
  • outspoken - speaking out freely or boldly; frank; vocal not reserved
  • outwit - get the better of by being more clever

Try to guess the meanings of the following elements.
