Topic 1 : "Finding judicial closure in Gulbarg"

  • Borne - carried or moved by a particular thing:
  • Mob violence - violence caused by a large crowd of people
  • Horrific - very bad and shocking
  • Dimension - a part or feature or way of considering something
  • Conviction - a strong opinion or belief
  • Rioting - violent public disturbance
  • Accountability - responsibility
  • Massacre - an act of killing a lot of people
  • Rampaging - a large group of people moving through a place in a violent and uncontrollable manner
  • Gruesome - extremely unpleasant and shocking, and usually dealing with death or injury
  • Riot - a violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd
  • Conviction - the decision of a judge in a court of law that someone is guilty of a criminal offence
  • Partial - incomplete
  • Significant - sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention / noteworthy.
  • Constituted - to form or make something
  • Probe - a thorough investigation into a crime or other matter
  • Misgiving - a feeling of doubt or worry about a future event
  • Arson - the criminal act of deliberately setting fire to property
  • Quantum - a required or allowed amount
  • In store - going to happen soon
  • Capital offence - a crime that can be punished by death
  • Perpetrator - someone who has committed a crime
  • Communal - belonging to a group of people
  • Consolation - something that makes someone who is sad or disappointed feel better
  • Conviction - the fact of officially being found to be guilty of a particular crime
  • Verdict - judgement
  • Trial court - a court of law where cases are tried in the first place, as opposed to an appeal court
  • Upheld - confirm or support (something which has been questioned)
  • Conspiracy - a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful
  • Acquitted - to decide officially in a law court that someone is not guilty of a particular crime
  • Repudiated - rejected
  • Allegation - a statement, made without giving proof, that someone has done something wrong or illegal
  • Rallying point - something that makes people join together to support a person, cause, etc
  • Implicated - show (someone) to be involved in a crime
  • Collapse - the sudden failure of something
  • Imply - indicate
  • Carnage - the killing of a large number of people
  • Spontaneity - happening or done in a natural, often sudden way, without any planning
  • Subtle - making use of clever and indirect methods to achieve something
  • Orchestration - to arrange something carefully, to achieve a wanted result
  • Delineate - to describe or mark the edge of something
  • Culpability - responsibility for a fault or wrong / blame
  • Wilful - intentional / deliberate
  • Omission - someone or something that has been left out
  • Closure - an act or process of closing something

  • Shipwrecks - the destruction of a ship at sea by sinking or breaking up
  • Refugee - a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster
  • Crisis - a time of great difficulty or danger
  • Confronting - facing a difficult situation
  • Obvious - easy to see, recognize, or understand
  • Unseaworthy - (of a boat or ship) not in a good enough condition to sail on the sea
  • Vessels - ships / large boats
  • Perilous - full of danger or risk
  • Fleeing - running away from a place or situation of danger
  • Misery - great unhappiness
  • Drowned - died by being unable to breathe underwater
  • Surpass - exceed / be greater than
  • Spike - a sharp increase in something
  • Strife - violent or angry disagreement
  • Insulate - to protect someone or something from harmful experiences or influences
  • Subside - become less intense, violent, or serious
  • Prompted - encouraged
  • Surge - a sudden and great increase
  • Comprehensive - complete and including everything that is necessary
  • Proactive - creating or controlling a situation rather than just responding to it after it has happened
  • Rescue - save (someone) from a dangerous or difficult situation
  • Financial muscle - financial strength
  • Stable - strong
  • Regime - government
  • Toppled - fell down
  • Sophisticated - intelligent
  • Supplemented - add an extra element or amount to
