  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has proposed a 7-point agenda on climate change during the G20 Summit.
    • Here are the 7 points provided by PM Modi:
      • What can G20 do for climate change?
      • At G20,we can play an effective role in supporting the multilateral goals of increasing research and development to develop affordable renewable energy.
      • We should also ensure that finace and technology is available to meet the universal global aspiration for clean energy.
      • We must meet the target of US$ 100 billion goal per year by 2020.
      • G20 counties should increase the share of traffic on public transportation in cities by 30 per cent by 2030.
      • We should shift from "carbon credit" towards "green credit".
      • When we speak of targets, we must not only reduce the use of fossil fuel, but also moderate our life style.
      • Development in harmony with nature is the goal of my proposal to launch along French President Hollande, an alliance of solar-rich countries at the time of COP-21 meeting.
  • Today (3rd Sunday of November) is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.
    • This day was started by the British road crash victim charity, RoadPeace, in 1993 and was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005.

  • India and Bangladesh today signed a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in New Delhi, to operationalize the “Agreement on Coastal Shipping” signed between the two countries in June, 2015.
    • This will enhance trade by bringing down the cost of transportation of EXIM (Export-Import) cargo.
Science & Technology
  • Shipwright School, a premier technical establishment of the Indian Navy, was commissioned as Indian Naval Ship Vishwakarma by Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan at a formal ceremony held at the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) in Visakhapatnam. 
    • The school is the alma mater for several naval architect officers, shipwright officers and sailors of the Indian Navy.
People in News
  • The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has registered money laundering case against Himachal Pradesh CM Virbhadra Singh.
    • The agency has filed the case under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) after taking cognisance of a criminal complaint filed by the CBI in this regard in September.
New Appointments
  • The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has nominated Satish Shah and Bhawana Somaaya as members of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Society
    • Their nominations are in the category of persons of eminence connected with Films and Television Education, Journalism, Literature, Fine Arts, Dramatics, Performing Arts, etc.
    • The Ministry has also nominated Shri Brijendra Pal Singh as member of FTII Society in the category of alumni of FTII.
Business & Economy
  • Swacch Bharat cess of 0.5% comes into effect from today.
    • This cess will increase the service tax rate from 14% to 14.5% on all taxable services, including mobile telephone services, travel and PAN (Permanent Account Number) cards.
    • Railway fares for upper class categories will go up by 4.35 %.
    • The Government is expecting to collect around Rs 10,000 crore from Swachh Bharat cess for full year.
    • The tax generated through the cess will be used to fund Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pet project, the Swachh Bharat Mission.
    • The government announced the date for implementation on 6 November.

  • China's Xuerui Li has won the China Open Super Series Premier Badminton title by beating India's Saina Nehwal.
    • Saina Nehwal failed to defend her tittle and lost in straight sets to Xuerui Li in the final.
