Union Budgets 2014 and 2015 - A Comparison

Hi I am Sadanand Tiwari, a competitive exam aspirant from Madhubani (Bihar). All of you know how important the Union Budget is for competitive exams. You can expect at least one question from Union Budget in any banking related and other competitive exam. You might have already gone through the Union Budget 2015.  But now a days the competitive exams became very tricky. They are asking questions from different perspectives. So here I am sharing the comparisons of Union Budgets 2014 (Feb), 2014 (July) and 2015 (Feb) based on various sectors so that you can differentiate them easily. Union Budgets 2014 (February), 2014 (July) and 2015 (February) Comparisons

  • Banking Sector :

    • 2014 (Feb) - P Chidambaram : Capital infusions of Rs. 11,200 crore in PSBs.
    • 2014 (July) - Arun Jaitley : Banks can issue bonds with minimum regulatory preemption Baks' credit target hiked to Rs. 8 lakh crore
    • 2015 (Feb) - Arun Jaitley : MUDRA Bank, with a corpus of Rs. 20,000 cr, and credit gurantee corpus of Rs. 3,000 cr. proposed
  •  Capital Goods 

    • 2014 (Feb) - P Chidambaram : Excise duty cut from 12% to 10%
    • 2014 (July) - Arun Jaitley : No key announcements that directly impact capital goods companies.
    • 2015 (Feb) - Arun Jaitley : No key announcements that directly impact capital goods companies. 
  • FMCG :

    • 2014 (Feb) - P Chidambaram : To encourage domestic production of soaps, custom duty on non-edible grade industrial oils has been rationalized at 7.5%
    • 2014 (July) - Arun Jaitley : Excise duty on tobaco products, aerated drinks, pan masala to go up, custom duty on raw material for soaps removed.
    • 2015 (Feb) - Arun Jaitley : Cigarettes and tobacco products to go expensive; excise duty raised from 12 to 12.5%.
  • Gold :

    • 2014 (Feb) - P Chidambaram : Govt to look into relaxing gold import curbs imposed in April & May 2013
    • 2014 (July) - Arun Jaitley : No major change
    • 2015 (Feb) - Arun Jaitley : Will introduce sovereign gold bonds and gold monetisation scheme. 
  • Healthcare

    • 2014 (Feb) - P Chidambaram : Health ministry has delivered JE vaccine, a diagnostic test for Thelassaemia and Magnivisualizer for cervical cancer detection.
    • 2014 (July) - Arun Jaitley : Setting up of four new AIIMS & earmarking Rs. 500 cr for the same.
    • 2015 (Feb) - Arun Jaitley : AIIMS in Punjab, J & K, Tamil Nadu, HP and Assam this year.
  • Oil and Gas : 

    • 2014 (Feb) - P Chidambaram : No major change.
    • 2014 (July) - Arun Jaitley : New road map for LPG price reform Development of an addtional 15,000 km of gas pipelines using PPP model .
    • 2015 (Feb) - Arun Jaitley : No major change.
  •  Pharma :

    • 2014 (Feb) - P Chidambaram : No major change
    • 2014 (July) - Arun Jaitley : To move towards
    • 2015 (Feb) - Arun Jaitley : No major change
  • Power : 

    • 2014 (Feb) - P Chidambaram : No major change
    • 2014 (July) - Arun Jaitley : Rs. 500 cr allocated for a scheme to help uninterrupted power supply to rural areas.
    • 2015 (Feb) - Arun Jaitley : Five ultra mega power projects, each of 5,000 MW coming, this will bring Rs. 1 lakh cr investment.
  • Stocks :

    • 2014 (Feb) - P Chidambaram : No major change
    • 2014 (July) - Arun Jaitley : Hike in FDI limit in insurance companies from 26% to 49% to increase investment cap under section 80C of the income tax act from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.5 lakh
    • 2015 (Feb) - Arun Jaitley : Govt to do away with distinction between FII and FDI and replace it with Composite Caps. FMC to be merged with SEBI.
