Hindu Editorial Topic 1 :  "The Bhutan vote"
  • Certain - having no doubt or knowing exactly that something is true, or known to be true, correct, exact, or effective
  • Significant - important or noticeable
  • Repercussion - the effect that an action, event, or decision has on something, especially a bad effect
  • Verdict - judgment or opinion given after considering the facts of a situation
  • Ousting - to force someone to leave a position of power, job, place, or competition
  • Incumbent - officially having the named position
  • Fray - a fight or argument, especially one in which several people take part
  • Neophyte - someone who has recently become involved in an activity and is still learning about it

  • Constituency - a division of a country that elects a representative to a parliament
  • Denote - to be a feature that shows you what something is
  • Discontent - the unhappy feeling that you have when you are not satisfied with something
  • Quotient - a particular degree or amount of something
  • Regardless of - without being affected or influenced by anything else that happens or exists
  • Monarch - a king, or a queen
  • Retain - to keep or continue to have something
  • Considerable - large in size, amount, or degree
  • Predecessor - the person who had a job or official position before someone else

  • Bilateral - involving two groups or countries
  • Subsidy - an amount of money that the government or another organization pays to help to reduce the cost of a product or service
  • Campaign - to try to achieve political or social change by persuading other people or the government to do something
  • Sovereignty - the right to rule a country
  • Self-sufficiency - ability to provide everything that you need by yourself, without help from other people
  • Impact - an effect, or an influence
  • Plateau - a large flat area of land that is higher than the land around it
  • Formal - following the correct or suitable official methods
  • Mainstay - the person or thing that something depends on most in order to continue or be successful
  • Consolidate - to make the power, position, or achievements you already have stronger or more effective so that they are likely to continue
  • In the saddle - to have control of something

  • Liquidity - a situation in which a business has money or property that it can sell in order to pay money that it owes
  • Crisis - an urgent, difficult, or dangerous situation
  • Address - to give attention to or deal with a matter or problem

  • Defining moment - the point at which a situation is clearly seen to start to change
  • Fuel - to make something increase or become worse, especially something unpleasant

  • Hazard - something that could be dangerous or could cause damage or accidents
  • Tap into - to choose someone for a task, especially membership of an organization or committee
  • Crises - plural of crisis (an urgent, difficult, or dangerous situation)
