  • 1st September is Independence Day of Uzbekistan.
    • On 31 August 1991, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Uzbekistan declared independence.
    • 1 September was proclaimed the National Independence Day of Uzbekistan.

  • India is going to help Nepal build a railway line connecting Raxaul (Bihar) to Kathmandu (Nepal). 
    • Both the countries have signed an MoU under which India will conduct a preliminary engineering and traffic survey of the new rail line. 
National Current Affairs
  • India is observing National Nutrition Week from Today (1st of September) to Friday (7th of September).
    • National Nutrition Week is celebrated each year from 1st September to the 7th September to aware the people about important tips of their health and well-being.
    • The main objective of this campaign is to create awareness on the importance of nutrition for health which has far reaching implications on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development.
    • This campaign was first started by the central government in the year 1982 in order to encourage the good health and healthy living through the nutrition education as the malnutrition is the main obstruction to the National Development.
    • The Women and Child Development Ministry has decided to intensify its efforts in battling malnourishment among children this year.

  • The Home Ministry has announced it will collect data on Other Backward Classes (OBCs) for the first time in the 2021 Census
    • Note : The government has been collecting data on Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes since the first census of Independent India in 1951. 
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) which will go live with 650 branches and 3,250 access points. 
    • The government aims to link all 1.55 lakh post offices to the India Post Payments Bank system by December 31. 
    • The bank can accept deposits of up to ₹1 lakh but can't issue loans or credit cards.
    • The bank will offer 4% interest rate on savings accounts and can accept deposits of up to ₹1 lakh per account. 
    • It will offer doorstep banking services, direct benefit transfers, bill and utility payments, money transfer, mobile and net banking. 
    • IPPB has partnered with different financial institutions to provide loans, investments, and insurance products.
  • Union Bank of India has announced that it will close its branch in the global diamond hub of Antwerp within a year.
Awards & Honors
  • Nehal Chudasama from Mumbai was crowned the Yamaha Fascino Miss Diva Miss Universe 2018.
    • The 22-year-old is a Commerce graduate from Thakur College in Mumbai. 
    • She is currently preparing for the UPSC examination.
    • Note : Now she will compete at the Miss Universe 2018 pageant in Bangkok in December. 
New Appointments
  • Justice Syeda Tahira Safdar was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court.  
    • With this, she became the 1st woman Chief Justice of a Pakistani High Court
