Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "The Nepal reset: on India-Nepal ties"
  • Deliverable - something that can be achieved or delivered as the result of a plan or process
  • Bilateral - involving two groups or countries
  • Pronouncement - an official public statement
  • Perceptible - able to be seen, heard etc if you look, listen etc carefully
  • Rupture - an end to a friendly relationship or to a peaceful situation
  • Unusual - not normal, common, or ordinary
  • Departure from - something new and different
  • Protocol - a set of rules for the correct way to behave on formal occasions
  • Sear in - to make someone give a formal promise in a law court or at an official ceremony
  • Significant - very important
  • Blockade - an official action that is intended to prevent people or goods from moving from one place to another
  • Rhetoric - a style of speaking or writing that is intended to influence people
  • Campaign - a series of actions intended to produce political or social change
  • Devoid of - lacking something, especially a good quality
  • Sermonise - to tell someone how to behave in a morally correct way, although they do not want to hear it
  • Posture - an attitude, or the way that someone behaves towards other people
  • Contentious - causing disagreement between people or groups
  • Overdue - if something is overdue, it should have been done before now
  • Tenor - the character or usual pattern of something
  • Susceptible - easily influenced or affected by something
  • Conspiracy theory - the idea that a group of people secretly worked together to cause a particular event
  • Meddling - to become involved in a situation that you have no right to be involved in, in a way that is annoying
  • Diplomat -  an official whose job is to represent their government in a foreign country
  • Embassy - a group of officials who represent their government in a foreign country
  • Lend credence - to make people think that something is likely to be true
  • Patronising - behaving or speaking in a way that shows you think you are more intelligent or important than someone
  • Treaty - an official written agreement between two or more countries
  • Aspirational - wanting to be successful and have a better job, home etc than you already have
  • Land-locked country - a country that is surrounded by land
  • Determine - to control what something will be
  • Initiative - an important action that is intended to solve a problem
  • Residual - remaining after the rest of something has gone or ended
  • Concern - a feeling of worry about something, especially one that a lot of people have about an important issue
  • Enhance - to improve something
  • Plains - a large flat area of land
  • Discreet - careful not to say anything that is secret or that could upset someone
  • Diplomatic - relating to the profession or skill of preserving or creating friendly relationships between countries
  • Fragile - used about a situation, agreement, or relationship that can easily be damaged or destroyed
  • Grandstanding - behaviour that is intended to get public attention and approval

  • Fine-tuning - to make small changes to something in order to make it as good or as effective as possible
  • Framework - a set of principles, ideas etc that you use when you are forming your decisions and judgments

  • Assessment - the process of making a judgment or forming an opinion, after considering something or someone carefully
  • Unsurprising - something unsurprising is what you expected
  • Skew - to affect facts or information so that they are not accurate
  • Inadequate - not enough, or not good enough for a particular purpose
  • Adequate - good enough or large enough for a particular purpose
  • Doctoral - related to studying for a doctorate
  • Credential - documents that prove who you are or that show your qualifications or status
  • Journal - a magazine containing articles relating to a particular subject or profession
  • Inclusivity - a policy or practice that deliberately attempts to involve all types of people
  • Diversity - the fact that very different people or things exist within a group or place
  • Evolve - to gradually develop particular physical features
  • Enrol - if you enrol at a school or other institution, or if someone enrols you there, you put your name on the official list of its students or members
  • Obscure - to make something difficult to understand
  • Critique - to express your opinion about something after examining and judging it carefully and in detail
  • Metric - a system or standard of measurement
  • Outcome - the final result of a process, meeting, activity etc
  • Proxy data - data given by someone else
  • Accuracy - the quality of being correct or true in every detail
  • Verifiable - able to be checked or proved
  • Emphasis - special importance or attention that is given to one thing in particular
  • Measurable - large enough to be measured, noticed, or important
  • Transparency - the quality of being done in an open way without secrets
  • Foster - to help something to develop over a period of time
  • Solely - involving nothing except the person or thing mentioned
  • Perception - a particular way of understanding or thinking about something
