Hai Friends I'm Kani. Here I'm sharing English Vocabulary from Editorial section of The Hindu News Paper dated 5th March 2018. Happy reading :)

  • Arena - a place or scene of activity, debate, or conflict
  • Victory - the fact of winning a competition or battle, or an occasion when someone wins
  • Import - the importance or meaning of something
  • Disproportionate - too large or too small in comparison to something else
  • Unarguably - true and impossible to disagree with
  • Accomplishment - something difficult that you succeed in doing, especially after working hard over a period of time
  • Threat - someone who might defeat you or might cause problems for you
  • Victory - the fact of winning a competition or battle, or an occasion when someone wins
  • Wield - to have and be able to use power or influence
  • Discourse - serious spoken or written discussion of a particular subject
  • Isolation -  the state of being separated from other people, or a situation in which you do not have the support of other people
  • Ally - someone who is ready to help you, especially against someone else who is causing problems for you
  • Prop up -  to help a government, system, organization etc to continue to exist
  • Keep something on the back burner - to decide not to deal with something until later
  • Backed - supported
  • Collapse - to suddenly fail or stop existing
  • Vote-bank - a large group of voters from a single community who always support a particular party or candidate in elections
  • Incumbency - an official position
  • Indigenous - indigenous people lived in a place for a very long time before other people came to live there
  • Breakaway - consisting of people who have decided to separate from a larger group
  • Tendency - a strong chance that something will happen in a particular way
  • Beneficiary - a person or group who receives money, advantages, etc. as a result of something else
  • Despite - used for saying that something happens even though something else might have prevented it
  • Battle - a situation in which different people or groups compete with each other in order to achieve something or get an advantage
  • Avoid - to try to prevent something from happening
  • Impose - to introduce something such as a new law or new system, and force people to accept it
  • Tariff - a tax that a government charges on goods that enter or leave their country
  • Protectionism - a system in which a country helps its own industries by putting taxes on foreign goods
  • Aftermath - the effects and results of something bad or important
  • Learn your lesson - to be unlikely to do something stupid or wrong again, because the last time you did it something unpleasant happened
  • Prolonged - continuing for a long time
  • Depression - a period of time when there is a lot of unemployment and poverty because there is very little economic activity
  • Indefinite - continuing into the future with no fixed end
  • Vow to do something - to promise that you will do something
  • Favour - something that you do for someone in order to help them
  • Retaliatory - intended to do something harmful or unpleasant to someone because they have done something harmful or unpleasant to you
  • Exporter - a person, business, or country that sells goods to another country
  • Scrutiny - careful examination of someone or something
  • Deficit - the difference between the amount of money or goods that a country or business has and the amount that it has spent or that it owes
  • Ignorance - lack of knowledge or facts about a situation or a particular subject
  • Zero-sum game - a situation in which one person can win only what another person loses
  • Merely - only / just
  • Flip side - he negative aspects of an idea, plan, or situation
  • Surplus - an amount of money or goods that is left because a country or business has more than it needs
  • Globalisation - the idea that the world is developing a single economy and culture as a result of improved technology and communications and the influence of very large multinational companies
  • Out of the window - used for saying that you stop doing something or stop using something completely
  • Despite - used for saying that something happens even though something else might have prevented it
  • Backlash - a strong, negative, and often angry reaction to something that has happened, especially a political or social change
  • Walk back - to take back a comment or reverse a decision
  • Populist - representing the interests and opinions of ordinary people
  • Resonance - an emotional effect produced by something that reminds you of something else
  • Dispute - a serious disagreement, especially one between groups of people that lasts for a long time
  • Retaliate - to do something harmful or unpleasant to someone because they have done something harmful or unpleasant to you
  • Negotiation - formal discussions in which people or groups try to reach an agreement, especially in a business or political situation
