International Current Affairs
- Today (6th February) is International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation.
- This day is an UN-sponsored awareness day.
- This day is observed to make the world aware of female genital mutilation (also called FGM) and to promote its eradication.
- Nepal's last monarch Gyanendra Shah has arrived in Odisha to attend the International Gau Sambardhana Mahotsav as Chief Guest.
- He is going to lay the foundation stone for a Gaumata Mandir.
- Dubbing the event as the 'Wow Cow Mission', the event's organisers said that it aims to raise the status of India's 'desi' cow to boost the economy, agriculture and nutrition.

- The ‘1st Pelican Bird Festival-2018’ was held at Atapaka Bird Sanctuary located at Kolleru lake in Andhra Pradesh.
MOUs & Agreements
- Cab-hailing startup Ola and the Government of Assam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pilot an app-based river taxi service in Guwahati.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- The UK's Lloyds Banking Group has banned its customers from buying cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin using credit cards as it fears their falling value could leave it with huge debt.
- The ban applies to Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland, Halifax and MBNA customers.
- The Union Finance Ministry is going to ban cryptocurrencies from payments system and at the same time appoint regulator to oversee unregulated exchanges that trade in crypto assets.
- Note : The Dinesh Sharma committee constituted by the Government to look into issues relating to cryptocurrencies will finalise its recommendations by submiting its report in current fiscal year, ending on March 2018.
- Amid severe financial constraints, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has suggested that all MLAs in the state pay their own income tax, which is currently borne by the state.
- This move will help the state save ₹11.08 crore annually.
Awards & Honors
- Bollywood Actors Bhumi Pednekar and Vicky Kaushal have featured in Forbes India's '30 under 30' list.
- Mithila Palkar, known for her roles in web series, singer Jubin Nautiyal, fashion designer Alan Alexander Kaleekal and jewellery designer Suhani Parekh were also included in the list, which focuses on young achievers under the age of 30.
New Appointments
- The government has approved a proposal to extend the tenure of Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant till June 30, 2019.
- Note : Kant's two-year term was supposed to expire this month.
- India's second largest Credit Card Issuer, SBI Card has appointed Hardayal Prasad as it's new MD & CEO.
- He has replaced Mrs Vijay Jasuja who retired on 31st January 31 2018.
Science & Technology
- India successfully test-fired the indigenously developed nuclear-capable Agni-1 ballistic missile from the Abdul Kalam Island off Odisha coast.
- The missile, which was inducted into service in 2004, has a specialised navigation system which ensures it reaches the target with a high degree of accuracy and precision.
- To create awareness around Internet safety, the search engine giant Google has launched ‘#SecurityCheckKiya’ campaign in India.
- Note : This campaign was launched on the occasion of Safer Internet Day (6 February).
- Aim of #SecurityCheckKiya Campaign : To protect first-time web users from account hijacking, safeguard Android devices from malicious apps and secure all their personal data if they lose their device.
Sports Current Affairs
- Indian cricketers Jasprit Bumrah and Harmanpreet Kaur have been named in Forbes India 30 Under 30 achievers list.
- The list also includes women's hockey team goalkeeper Savita Punia and shooter Heena Sidhu.
