International Current Affairs
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit Palestine on 9th February 2018.
- During this visit, he will inaugurate Palestine Institute of Diplomacy, which has been set up with Indian assistance of ₹28.6 crore.
- Important Note : Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Palestine.
- India and Pakistan have extended an agreement on linking the two countries through Munabao-Khokhrapar rail line till January 31, 2021.
- The rail link, which connects Sindh and Rajasthan, is important for improving relations between the two countries.
- The 1st-ever public LGBT festival was held in Myanmar after the government gave its approval for the '&Proud' festival, though homosexuality is illegal in the country.
- The primary goal of the event is to acknowledge equality and human rights, and create awareness among the people about the LGBT community.
- The UK government has approved a plan to build a memorial in London to honour the Indian Sikh servicemen who fought for Britain during WWI and WWII.
National Current Affairs
- The government has reversed its decision to issue Orange-coloured passports to people requiring emigration check amid criticism that it might lead to discrimination and segregation.
- The orange passports identify people who don't file taxes and are not educated beyond Class 10.
- Important Note : The government also reversed it's decision to not print the passport holder's address on the last page of the booklet, so now Passports will remain a valid address proof in India.
- To counter Islamic radicalisation of youth, the Centre has proposed the adoption of the 'Singapore Model'.
- Under this model, there would be a religious rehabilitation mechanism with help from popular scholars and community leaders, instead of an extended criminal trial for the radicalised youth.
- Minister of State Giriraj Singh today launched a new Khaki colored uniforms for the Department of Posts personnel.
- The department redesigned the uniform in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology.

- Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee has released the pictorial biography of freedom fighter, pilot, politician of Odisha Biju Patnaik titled 'The Tall Man Biju Patnaik'.
- This book has been authored by Sundar Ganesan.
Awards & Honors
- In a first for an Indian, NITI Aayog Member Vinod Paul has been chosen to receive WHO’s prestigious IhsanDogramaci Family Health Foundation Prize for his services in the field of family health.
- This award will be presented to Paul at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, in May.
- Bollywood Actor Varun Dhawan has become the youngest Bollywood actor to get a wax statue at the Madame Tussauds museum.
- The actor unveiled his wax statue at the Madame Tussauds museum in Hong Kong.
MOUs & Agreements
- The government and World Bank today signed a $100 million (about Rs 6,400 crore) loan agreement to promote rural economy in selected blocks of Tamil Nadu across 26 districts, benefiting over 4 lakh people.
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India today signed a $250 million loan agreement to finance the construction of 6,254 kilometres all-weather rural roads in the States of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal under the Prime Minister's Rural Roads Program (PMGSY).
Science & Technology
- Indian Navy today launched INS Karanj, the third of the six indigenous Scorpene-class submarines.
- The submarine, equipped with superior stealth features and precision-guided weapons, has been built at Mumbai's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.
New Appointments
- Indian-American Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen has been elected as the Vice Chairman of the US-India Strategic and Partnership Forum (USISPF), a new organisation set up to enhance business relations between India and the US.
- Former CIA Director Gen (rtd) David Petraeus has been appointed as the new advisor to the organziation.
- Ajay Singh, chairman and managing director of Spice Jet Limited and John Kern, senior vice president of Supply Chain Operations at Cisco, have been appointed as new members of USISPF.
- The Czech president, Miloš Zeman, has been elected to a second five-year term after winning a runoff vote.
- Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández has been sworn in for a second term.
- bOpposition leader Raila Odinga declared himself as the "people's president" and took oath at a ceremony in the capital city of Nairobi.
- Finland's President Sauli Niinisto has been comfortably re-elected for a second six-year term.
