National Current Affairs
- Today (10th January) is World Hindi Day.
- The day is commemorated every year with the objective to promote use of Hindi language abroad.
- The first World Hindi Conference was organized on this day (10 January) in the year 2006 in Nagpur and since then every 10 January is observed as the World Hindi Day.
- At present Hindi as a language is spoken in more than 20 countries around the world and is being taught in 150 Universities of the world.
- Important Note :
- World Hindi Day and National Hindi day are different.
- National Hindi Day is celebrated on September 14.
- The Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi as the Official Language of the Union on this day (14 September) in the year 1949.
- The 1st-ever Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) Parliamentary Conference was held in the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra (PBK) in New Delhi on the occasion of Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas (PBD).
- Bhopal railway station in Madhya Pradesh has become India's first railway station to have a sanitary napkin vending machine.
- The machine named 'Happy Nari', installed by the Railway Women Welfare Association of Bhopal, dispenses two sanitary napkins for ₹5.
- Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today launched a Common card for rides on public buses and the metro.
- With this Delhi became the first city in the country to have a common mobility card.
- The 3rd meeting of Council of Trade Development and Promotion (CTDP) was held in New Delhi.
- This meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Suresh Prabhu.
- Aim of this meeting : To enhance the Centre’s cooperation with the states and union territories in making the latter active partners in boosting India’s exports.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- The Union Cabinet cleared a proposal allowing 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) in single-brand retail via automatic route.
- This move makes it easier for foreign brands to fully own their Indian stores when earlier they needed to partner with local brands.
- Paytm has announced setting up of its wealth management division Paytm Money for users to store cash and earn interest.
- Paytm Money will be the company's fourth consumer brand after Paytm, Paytm Mall, and Paytm Payments Bank.
- Gujarat has topped the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) index released by Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

MOUs & Agreements
- The Ministry of housing and urban affairs and Allahabad Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide a centralised platform for processing interest subsidy under the self employment programme component of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Urban Livelihood Mission .
- Punjab National Bank (PNB) and National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) have signed an MOU to provide financial assistance for economic empowerment of persons belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) families living below Double Poverty Line (DPL).
- Under this tie-up, PNB would act as a channelising agent for the loan schemes of NSFDC.
Awards & Honors
- Bihar CM Nitish Kumar was honored with the 1st Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Award for Probity in Public Life.
- The first all-women station in India, Matunga on Central Railway (CR), manned by a staff of 41 women, has entered the Limca Book of Records.
New Appointments
- Rajesh Ranjan has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Botswana.
- The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), an umbrella organisation for retail payment systems in India, has appointed Dilip Asbe as MD&CEO of the organisation.
- He will replace A.P.Hota, who retired in August.
- IPS officer Sita Ram Mardi has been appointed as the new Director General of Police of Himachal Pradesh.
- He has replaced Sanjay Kumar.
Sports Current Affairs
- India today bagged its first-ever medal at an international skiing event after 21-year-old Aanchal Thakur won Bronze at the Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup in Erzurum, Turkey.
- Bahrain is going to host the first-ever 'Baby Olympics' where two to four-year-olds will take part in the games in April.
- The games will include five disciplines– athletics, gymnastics, football, basketball and weightlifting.
- Professional player Aditya Mehta won the Kolkata Open 2018 International Invitation Snooker Championship at Hindusthan Club, Kolkata.
