International Current Affairs
- The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that it is going to classify Gaming Disorder as a mental health condition in its forthcoming 11th International Classification of Diseases (ICD) which is to be published in the year 2018.
- The United States has announced that it will deny a military aid amounting to $255 million (over ₹1,600 crore) to Pakistan as it expects it to take decisive action "against terrorists on its soil".
- This comes after Pakistan refused to hand over to the US an operative of the Haqqani Network arrested during the rescue operation of an American-Canadian family in October.
National Current Affairs
- Under the BharatNet project, the government has approved ₹4,066 crore for providing Internet connectivity to people in all gram panchayats.
- The first phase of the project aims to connect 1 lakh panchayats with 100 Mbps speed.
- The government plans to connect all gram panchayats with high-speed broadband by March 2019.
- To pave the way for tightening loopholes in existing code and to make resolution process more effective, the Lok Sabha today passed the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill 2017.
- This Bill amends the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016, and replaces an Ordinance promulgated in November 2017.
- The union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh has launched Livestock Disease Forewarning (LDF) Mobile Application in New Delhi.
- This app was developed by ICAR - National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (ICAR - NIVEDI), Bengaluru.
Science & Technology
- The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced that it will launch 31 satellites, including India's Cartosat-2 series Earth observation satellite, in a single mission onboard its Polar rocket on 10th January 2018.
- The mission would consist of a combination of 28 nano satellites from foreign countries, and one micro and nano satellite from India along with the Cartosat satellite.
- Hyderabad-based technology startup H-Bots Robotics has launched a beta version of its smart policing robot in the city.
- The 'Robo Cop' can take complaints, record audio and video clips, identify suspects, detect metals, and monitor temperature.
MOUs & Agreements
- The Union Government has inked Loan agreement with World Bank for $40 Million IBRD Credit for “Uttar Pradesh Pro-Poor Tourism Development Project”.
- The project size is approximately $57.14 million, of which $40 million will be financed by World Bank, and remaining amount will be funded out of State Budget.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Bitcoin's rival cryptocurrency Ripple has surpassed Ethereum as the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation.
- The government has announced that the Indian economy slowed down in 2016-17, with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) declining drastically from 8% the previous year to 7.1%.

- Sue Grafton (77), the mystery writer who penned best-selling novels with alphabet-based titles, starting with "A Is for Alibi" and ending with "Y Is for Yesterday," passed away today.
New Appointments
- 1990 batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre Sumita Misra was appointed Joint Secretary in Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (PMEAC).
- 1993 batch IAS officer of Nagaland cadre Amardeep Singh Bhatia was appointed as new Director of Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO).
Sports Current Affairs
- Indian marksman Jitu Rai today won the Men's 50m pistol national title with a new national finals record score of 233 at the 61st National Shooting Championship in Thiruvananthapuram.
- He also won the gold in the team event combining with Jai and Omprakash Mitherwal for a total of 1658, beating Team Air Force, who finished second.
- Two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar qualified for the 2018 Commonwealth Games after defeating Jitender Kumar in the 74kg weight category today.
- Real Madrid C.F. star Cristiano Ronaldo has been named Globe Soccer's Best Player for 2nd year in a row and the 4th time overall.
