International Current Affairs
  • Today (last Sunday of September) is World Rivers Day.
    • This day is a celebration of the world's waterways.
    • This day highlights the many values of rivers and strives to increase public awareness and encourages the improved stewardship of rivers around the world.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind will visit Africa in the first week of October. 
    • Note : This will be his first foreign trip as a head of state.
    • His visit comes after India and Japan declared intent to link Asia with Africa as part of the India-Pacific and Indian Ocean strategy.
  • Saudi Arabia has invited women to a sports stadium for the first time to attend the kingdom's 87th National Day celebrations with their families. 
    • This marks a shift from previous celebrations in the kingdom where women are effectively barred from sports arenas.
    • Note : Saudi Arabia has strict restrictions for women, including barring them from driving.
  • During a high-level meeting at the UN on ‘Preventing Terrorist Use of Internethosted by the UK and Italy, India called for a global action to counter the use of Internet for radicalisation and terror financing. 
    • "Internet backbone, critical Internet resources and data centres should be dispersed and redundant to mitigate impact of major terror attacks," India said.
National Current Affairs
  • To distribute LPG connections among rural areas where conventional fuel is used for domestic purposes, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas today launched a country-wide scheme titled Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat scheme.
    • The scheme was launched by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan at Mota Ishanpur village in Gandhinagar district in Gujarat
    • Note : Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat Scheme is a backup scheme to existing Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
  • The Multi Purpose Stall Policy issued by the Railway Board has made it mandatory for kiosks on all zonal railway platforms to display and sell books on Indian culture, values, morals, and history
    • This new policy replaces the Bookstall Policy of 2004 which mandated that stalls sell books on varied subjects like literature, travel, culture, current affairs, and national integration.
  • Pralay Sahayam, a 2 day multi-Agency humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercise, was recently held in Hyderabad.
    • Aim of Pralay Sahayam : To create public awareness about man-made and natural climate change and urban disasters including flooding.
    • This exercise was jointly organised by Telangana state government in association with all central and state agencies National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and Armed Forces.
  • The Minister of Science & Technology, Earth Sciences and Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr. Harshvardhan today launched “Pt Deen Dayal Upadhayay Vigyan Gram Sankul Pariyojana” which will experiment and endeavour to formulate and implement appropriate S&T Interventions for Sustainable Development through cluster approach in Uttarakhand.
New Appointments
  • The government has extended the term of Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) Arvind Subramanian by one year till October 2018. 
    • Note : Subramanian was named as one of the world's top 100 global thinkers in 2011.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal played as a doubles pair for the first time when they represent Team Europe at the Laver Cup today.
