International Current Affairs
- Today (29th April) is International Dance Day / World Dance Day.
- The day was introduced in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theatre Institute.
- The date was chosen to commemorate the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre, who was born in 1727, a French dancer and ballet master and a great reformer of dance.
- Today is the "Day of Remembrance for all Victims of Chemical Warfare".
- This day is officially recognised by the United Nations (UN) and has been celebrated since 2005.
- US President Donald Trump today completed his first 100 days in office, which he called the most successful timeline in the country's history.
- In 14 weeks, Trump signed over 30 executive orders and 13 acts to roll back regulations, more than any president since Franklin Roosevelt.
- Trump also met various world leaders including leaders of Germany, Japan and China.
- North Korea has agreed to a visit by a UN expert on the rights of people with disabilities, Catalina Devandas-Aguilar, the United Nations announced today.
- Her visit will be the first ever to North Korea by an independent expert designated by UN Human Rights Council.
- The German parliament's lower house has approved a draft law that partially bans the full-face Islamic veil for public servants including election officials, military, and judicial staff while at work.
- The law, however, allows exceptions such as for health workers protecting themselves against infections or police officers concealing their identity.
National Current Affairs
- The Tamil Nadu government has initiated a process to enact a policy on the laundry of 'infectious' hospital linen.
- With the policy, Tamil Nadu will become the first state in the country to have separate guidelines on the issue.
- Bhilar, a hamlet in Satara district of Maharashtra is all set to become India’s first ‘book village’.
- Note : The concept of book village is inspired by Britain’s Hay-on-Wye, which is a Welsh town located in the United Kingdom, famous for its bookstores and literature festivals.
- Union Health Minister JP Nadda has launched the Test and Treat policy for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) patients.
- As per this new policy, anyone who is tested and found positive will get the necessary treatment free of cost.
- Anyone found positive will be provided with ART (Anti- Retroviral Therapy) irrespective of his CD count. The scheme will be a centrally sponsored scheme.
New Appointments
- Syrian national Yusra Mardini, who helped save a boat carrying fellow refugees in 2015, has been appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), the UN Refugee Agency.

- World's largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp was adjudged the 'Indian MNC of the year' by All India Management Association.
- Only 6-years since commencing its solo journey, Pawan Munjal-led Hero MotoCorp has emerged as a true Indian MNC.
- Indian sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik (Odisha) has won Gold Medal at 10th World Sand Sculptures Championship 2017 held between 22nd and 28th April at Moscow in Russia.

MOUs & Agreements
- A tripartite Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between BBNL, Department of Posts and BSNL to provide broadband connectivity of BharatNet to Post Offices in rural areas.
- BSNL would provide broadband services. The infrastructure expenses and the operational expenses would be paid by the Department of Posts.

Books & Authors
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled translated volumes of Vachana in 23 Indian languages on the occasion of Basava Jayanti today.
- The 23 Vachana volumes were edited by late M M Kalburgi and have been translated into other languages by more than 200 people.
- Note : This is the first ever celebration of Basava Jayanti at the national level in New Delhi.
Banking, Business and Economic Affairs
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said banks cannot refuse to accept faded notes or those with scribbles.
- The central bank said such banknotes had to be treated as "soiled notes" and dealt with according to the RBI's "clean note policy.
Sports Current Affairs
- Indian cueist Pankaj Advani won Silver at the Asian Snooker Championship, losing the final to China's Lv Haotian in Doha today.
- India's 18-year-old car racer Jehan Daruvala became the first Indian racer to occupy pole position in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in the qualifying session for Round 2 in Monza.
- Bollywood actress Gul Panag has became India's first woman to drive a Formula E car after driving the racing car in Barcelona, Spain.
- Kerala today organised India's first transgender one-day athletic meet in Thiruvananthapuram.
- 132 participants from 12 districts participated in this meet.
- The athletes participated in six sporting events, including sprint in 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 4x100 m relay, shot put and long jump.
