• Re - again; back

Let's try to understand this with some examples

• rejoin (verb) = to join somebody / something again after leaving them.
  
• re - Prefix = again
• join (joindre) - Root = to join
• recycle (verb) = to treat things that have already been used so that they can be used again.
• re - Prefix = again
• cycle (cyclus) - Root = circle

Let's have a look at some more words with prefixes, for better understanding.

• rearrange - arrange ‘again’
• rebuild - build again
• recall - to bring back to mind
• recapitulate - say ‘again’, going ‘back’ to the head of what you’re saying
• recede - move ‘back’
• redeem - buy ‘back’
• reduce - lead ‘back’
• redundant - flow ‘again’ unnecessarily
• reflect - bend ‘back’
• reincarnate - return into a body ‘again’
• reiterate - say again
• reject - throw ‘back’
• rejuvenate - make young ‘again’
• repeat - to say or write something again
• return - turn ‘back’
• revert - turn ‘back’
• rewrite - to write something again
