Topic 1 : "Dress code by judicial diktat"


  • Diktat - an ​order that must be ​obeyed
  • Ambience - the character and atmosphere of a place
  • Laudable - deserving praise
  • Guise - ​appearance
  • Fiat - an ​order given by a ​person in ​authority
  • Curb - to ​control or ​limit something that is not ​wanted
  • Inevitable - unavoidable
  • Impleaded -  to bring an action against
  • Endowment -  ​money that is given to an organization (Temple, ​college, ​hospital, etc) in ​order to ​provide it with an ​income
  • Interim -  ​temporary (which is ​intended to be used or ​accepted until something ​permanent ​exists)
  • Consonance - agreement
  • Attire - clothes
  • Enforce - to make ​people ​obey a ​law
  • Precincts -  a ​part of a ​city or a ​town in which ​vehicles are not ​allowed, used for a ​special ​purpose, such as ​shopping
  • Writ - a ​legal ​document from a ​ ​court that ​tells you that you will be ​involved in a ​legal ​process and ​explains what you must do
  • Unduly - to an unwarranted degree
  • Apparel - clothing

  • Doctrine - a ​belief
  • Threats - a ​suggestion that something ​unpleasant or ​violent will ​happen
  • Consensus - a general agreement
  • Calibration - the process of checking or changing the accuracy of something

  • Aggression - offensive action / attack
  • Eventuality - a possible event or outcome
  • Goof-up - a stupid mistake
  • Articulated - able to ​express ​thoughts and ​feelings ​easily and ​clearly
  • Anchored - gave support when needed
  • Vastly - very much
  • Inadequate - insufficient
  • Preservation - the ​act of ​keeping something the same (preventing it from damage)
  • Shallow - not so serious
  • Episodic - happening only sometimes and not ​regularly
  • Reform - make changes in something in order to improve it
  • Humiliation - the act of making someone ​feel ​ashamed
  • Disrupting - disturbing
  • Robust - ​strong and ​healthy
  • Cloaked - covered
  • Opacity - the quality of lacking transparency
  • Emerge - to ​appear by coming out of something
  • Credibility - the quality of being believable or trustworthy
  • Neutralise - to ​stop something from having an ​effect
  • Cohesive - united and ​working together ​effectively
  • Anarchy - a ​situation in which there is no ​control
