- The day symbolizes the great sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain, for humanity and truthfulness.
- In a landmark decision, the Indian government today approved the induction of women into combat stream of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
- The IAF is presently inducting women in Transport & Helicopter streams.
- Women have now become eligible for induction in all branches and streams of the Air Force.
- Note : The first women officer will enter a fighter pilot cockpit by June 2017.
- Green Wood Udbhav Utsav, an International Dance Festival featuring teams from various countries, including India, began in Gwalior.
- The festival has been jointly organised by the Udbhav Krida Avam Sanskritik Sanstahn and Green Wood Public School.
- Note : The dance teams from Greece, France, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh would take part in the festival.
- Sikkim, the landlocked Indian state located in the Himalayan mountains, is going to become 'No Honking' zone soon.
