International Affairs

• Today (14th November) is World Diabetes Day.
• International Diabetes Federation (IDF) has warned that the number of diabetes cases are soaring.
• It has predicted that the situation may worsen in the gulf countries with a decadent lifestyle and bad nutrition.
• After concluding his three-day Myanmar trip, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reached Brisbane, Australia.
• Here, Modi will attend the G20 summit over the next two days and meet several world leaders, before participating in bilateral engagements with the Australian government.
• A minor controversy erupted during PM Modi's visit to Queensland University of Technology (QUT), where the Indian map on display had Kashmir missing from it.
• This had prompted a strong protest by the Indian contingent and MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin confirmed that QUT has issued an unqualified apology for the error.
• PM Modi meets his counterparts from Britain (David Cameron) and Japan (Shinzo Abe) and President of European Union (Herman Van Rompuy) ahead of G20 Summit in Brisbane
• The three leaders welcome India-US agreement on Food Security issues with regard to WTO.
• The European Union (EU) has offered to extend its support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative of a Yoga Day at the United Nations.

National Affairs

• Nation pays tribute to Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on his 125th birth anniversary.
• The day is also being celebrated as Children's Day.
• Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi launched Bal Swachhata Abhiyan at Delhi today.
• Today's theme is 'clean school'.
• Today, during the morning assembly of schools, the students took a resolve that they will not use polythene bags, will not waste any paper and use the dustbins placed in the school.
• This campaign will continue till former Prime minister Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary, i.e., on November 19.
• A three-day National Children's Film Festival begins at Siri Fort auditorium in New Delhi.
• Inaugurated by Union Minister Arun Jaitley.
• A modified Direct Benefit Transfer of LPG (DBTL) will be launched for 54 districts from November 15 and the rest of the country by January 1, 2015.
• The scheme will cover 2 crore 33 lakh households in first phase covering 54 districts which will start tomorrow and second phase will cover rest of the country which is scheduled to start January next year.
• Kerala will be the first state to see the roll out of DBTL scheme in all its 14 districts where the Aadhaar penetration is 92 per cent.
• As part of the changes, consumers are not mandatorily required to have an Aadhaar number but having a bank account is a requirement.
• The Bombay High Court today cancelled the previous Congress-NCP government's decision of giving 16 percent reservation for Marathas in jobs and educational institutions in Maharashtra.
• Maharashtra govt to approach Supreme Court against this decision. 
• West Bengal govt suspends three officials in connection with suicide attempt by jailed Trinamool Congress MP, Kunal Ghosh (accused of Saradha scam case).
• Maharashtra government will soon launch a Rs 4,000 crore satellite imaging project to map all land in the state and prepare digital records of land holding. 
• The 34th edition of India International Trade Fair, IITF began at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi today.
• The annual event, which will continue up to 27th of this month, inaugurated by President of India Pranab Mukherjee.
• Thailand is the focus country while South Africa will be the partner country in the fair.

• India today successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable Prithvi-II surface-to-surface missile, which has a strike range of 350 km, from a test range at Chandipur (Odisha) as part of a user trial by Army.

• A joint investment fund set up by SBI and Oman's sovereign fund will raise its corpus by $250 million for a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to capitalise on the new government's 'Make in India' initiative.
• India is expected to become 2nd largest producer of crude steel in the world soon
