Let the numbers be 4X and 7X

So, (4X - 4) / (7X - 4) = 2/5  =>  X = 2

So, First number is 4 x 2 = 8

Third Portion = b²/a

here, a = 16 and b = 28

So, Third proportion = (28 x 28) / 16 = 49

3. 

Mean (Second) proportion = √ab

here, a = 72, b = 32

So, Mean proportion = √(72 x 32) = 48

4.

A : B : C = 5 x 4 : 4 x 6 : 6 : 7 = 10 : 12 : 21

(A/B).(B/C).(C/D) = (7/8).(10/11).(4/5)

=> A / D = 7/11   =>  7:11

Let the shares of A, B and C be 18X, 15X and 13X

15X = 4500 =>  X = 300

So, C share of money = 13 X

= 13 x 300 = Rs. 3900

Shortcut :

B's share is 15 parts, which is equal to Rs. 4500  then

C's share is (13/15) x 4500 = Rs. 3900

7. 

Let the milk and water be 5X and 4X litres

5X / (4X + 9) = 4/5 => X = 4

So, Milk is 5X = 5 x 4 = 20 litres

8. 

Let 2A = 3B = 4C = X

So, A = X/2,   B = X/3 and C = X/4

A : B : C = (1/2) : (1/3) : (1/4) = (6/12) : (4/12) : (3/12)

= 6 : 4 : 3

A's share is (6/13) x 5460 = Rs. 2520

9.

Ratio of the values of the coins

= (5/1) : (4/2) : (9/4) = 20 : 8 : 9

Value of 25 Paise coins = (9/37) x 74 = Rs. 18

 

So, Number of 25 Paise coins = 18 x 4 = 72

10. 

Ratio of the number of Coins = 12 x 1 : 7 x 2 : 8 x 4  = 6 : 7 : 16

So, Number of 50 Paise Coins = (7/29) x 290 = 70
