International Affairs
  • Brazil re-elects Dilma Rousseff as president for a second term.
  • The lawmakers of China are considering scrapping the death penalty for nine crimes, including illegal fund raising.
    • China has 55 crimes that are punishable by death, including murder, burglary, rape and drug-related offenses.
    • It is estimated to have put about 2,400 people to death last year.
  • Australia today announced that it was suspending migration from Ebola-hit West African nations to try to prevent the virus from crossing its borders

National Affairs
  • The Vigilance Awareness Week is being observed this year from 27th October 2014 to 1st November 2014
    • This year’s theme : “Combating Corruption – Technology as an enabler”.
  • Today (27th October 2014) is the "World Day for Audiovisual Heritage".
    • This commemorative day was chosen by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 2005 to raise of awareness of the significance of and preservation risks recorded sound and audiovisual documents (films, sound and video recordings, radio and television programmes)
  • In an important revelation, the Centre today released eight names against whom it has started prosecution for allegedly stashing black money in foreign banks.
    • The names three Indians, Pradip Burman of Dabur, Rajkot-based bullion trader Pankaj Chalamanlal Lodhia and Goa-based mining baron Radha Timloo were disclosed by the Centre in the affidavit.
    • The Centre today told the Supreme Court that Swiss government has indicated its willingness to provide information on "stolen data" containing names of Indians who had allegedly stashed black money in banks there.
  • First ever BJP government in Maharashtra to take oath on Friday (31st October 2014).
    • Maharashtra BJP president Devendra Fadnavis is considered to be the frontrunner for state CM's post.
  • The Supreme Court today dismissed the plea of S Nalini, undergoing life imprisonment in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, challenging the law mandating the Centre's approval for her release and that of six other convicts.
  • Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Uma Bharti today announced setting up Ganga Vahini, a voluntary organization to make Namami Gange programme a mass movement.
  • The Bombay High Court today asked the Centre to file an affidavit within six weeks in reply to a petition demanding Ashok Chakra as well as other gallantry awards for officers belonging to various agencies, who had fought terrorists during the 26/11 terror attacks.
  • A survey by Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, conducted among the one-lakh-odd Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in India has found that 67 per cent of those interviewed wanted to remain in India.
  • In a noble step, the Patna police has armed with first aid box at 5 important posts to avoid loss of time in attending to the victims.

  • India's GDP is likely to expand by 5.6 per cent this fiscal as reforms gain momentum and the growth is expected to accelerate as proposed measures such as GST will give a boost to manufacturing sector, a World Bank report said today.

  • Sarita Devi has pleaded with the International Boxing Association (AIBA) to lift the provisional suspension imposed on her for refusing to accept her bronze medal in the Asian Games.
    • Boxing India (BI) will appeal the International Boxing Association's (AIBA) provisional suspension on her.

Your right friend.she didn't commit that act deliberately.We all know our reputed athletes educational background and levels of skill management.They come from poor families and obviously don't know the smartness of this Hippocratic world.She did like that to show her injustice and agony to the judges and organizers.She must not be punished.The issue should be considered under the grounds of empathetic tenderness and care.
