International Affairs
  • President Pranab Mukherjee will embark on a two-nation visit to Norway and Finland from 12th October 2014 during which he will meet Heads of the States and important functionaries.
    • Mr. Mukherjee will be the first Indian President to visit Norway.
  • The Pentagon has approved two previously-stalled technology transfer licenses to India and in an unprecedented move has set aside USD 20 million for strategic cooperative science and technology projects with New Delhi.
  • On his maiden trip to India, Facebook co-founder and one of the world’s youngest billionaires Mark Zuckerberg called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss digital expansion in the country.
    • Facebook will extend help in developing the Clean India Mobile App that would be launched soon. 
  • Anti-EU UK Independence Party won its first British Parliament berth barely seven months before the general elections as its leader asserted that the country's politics has been shaken by the party's triumph.
National Affairs
  • Severe cyclonic storm, Hudhud lay centered about 240 kilometeres southeast of Vishakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and 330 kilometers southeast of Gopal Pur in Odisha.
    • Andhra and Odisha on high alert.
    • Cyclone to cross north Andhra Pradesh coast by tomorrow afternoon. States to experience heavy wind speed upto 185 kilometers per hour.
    • A high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister reviewing preparedness.
    • Hudhud has been named after the national bird of Israel. The name was suggested by Oman.
  • Indian Navy collaborates with NCC to provide experience of sea warrior to cadets.
    • The National Cadet Corps (NCC)and the Indian Navy, 10 NCC cadets, along with one staff member, are being provided the opportunity to sail twice a year onboard ships of the 1st Training Squadron.
New Schemes
  • Prime Minister Narender Modi launches Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.
  • Highlights
    • The rural development scheme aims at improving the standard of living and quality of life of all sections of people by improving basic amenities.
    • A Member of Parliament (MP) must identify a village, other than his or her own village or that of the spouse, and turn it into a 'model village' by 2016 and two more villages to 2019. After 2019, the MP must develop five model villages till 2024 (each every year).
    • MPs must identify villages from nearby rural areas not their urban constituencies.
    • The scheme will put special focus on empowering the poor household to come out of poverty by developing a plan for every identified gram panchayat.
    • The yojna aims at turning villages into model villages not only by infrastructure development but also by gender equality, dignity of women, social justice, community service, cleanliness, eco-friendliness, peace and harmony.
    • Mutual-cooperation, self reliance, local self-government, transparency and accountability in public life will also be expected.
    • Social mobilisation and a systematic environment will be created in the model village led and guided by the MP him/herself.
    • The District Collector will coordinated the planning process of the Gram Panchayat which will be a participatory exercise.
  • The first ever National Mental Health Policy was launched in an attempt to provide universal psychiatry care to the population, 20 % of which are likely to suffer some form of mental illness by 2020.

  • PM Narendra Modi releases a book on social activist Nanaji Deshmukh, "Viraat Purush Nanaji Deshmukh" which has been compiled in six volumes by the Deendayal Research Institute.
    • The book is a collection of the writings of Shri Nanaji Deshmukh.

  • Industrial production growth slowed down to five-month low of 0.4 per cent in August mainly due contraction in manufacturing output and lower offtake of consumer goods.

  • Jan Dhan Yojana : Finance Ministry said 5.52 crore bank accounts have been opened till October 7 and deposit of Rs 4,268 crore have been mobilised under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).

  5. can any one help..i had finished my exam today...but i have one doubt...after submission ....it was like..answered 90...marked for review 14 and not answered ## .Does it mean i attempted 104 or 90??? pls help...

  9. thanku admin ur gk ebook for banking was best I was able to prepare within 2 todays I even completed the full ebook just ABBREVIATON (COMPANIES FULL FORM) section, from there also 2-3 question were there...I think for gk that ebook is best and i attempted around 20-25 question with 90+ % accuracy...

    One DI - Double Pi Chart
    One DI - Horizental Line Chart
    One DI - Tabular DI (with Marks and Income type)
    One DI - Tabular with (vote percentages)
    One DI - Paragraph on set theory (with Latin,English, french and Another Language being spoken in a school).
    Data Sufficiency - 05
    Profit
    Loss, Age Problems,Mixture allegation, Train Problem, Geometry and
    Mensuration - 10-15 (not sure, can't complete the full set of questions)

    X and Y Relation and Inequality - 05
    Series (i am not sure.
    Never seen any question. Since i have not been able to complete the full
    set of question it may be there.)
