RBI Grade B officers Strategy

Friends, Myself Santosh Kumar Perali from Hyderabd, just an aspirant like you. Today I want to share the final 7 day action plan for RBI Grade B officer’s exam which is going to be held on 3rd August 2014. And this exam is stepping stone for lucrative job with RBI (India's Central bank).

I hope everybody is preparing well, but RBI exam is all about "General awareness”, because 80/200 marks directly coming from this section. So we should concentrate more in this area, and second area of priority should be "Reasoning" because it is worth 60/200, and "General English”, “Quantitative aptitude" of 30 marks each.

And we have to answer 200 questions in 2 hr and 10 min. So we should have particular action plan to crack it.

Action plan

General awareness

We should prepare following areas more, as there is scope to get direct questions from these areas
  1. Banking history, i.e. RBI act 1934, SBI act 1955, Scheduled banks etc.
  2. Recent RBI committees and their heads, like Nachiket mor committee etc, 4 or 5 questions may come from here, even RBI governors names also important.
  3. India Year book (focus should be on 12 FYP and allocation of funds to diff. sectors), Social security schemes like IAY, MNREGA etc,13 or 15 questions will come from this area, so be cautious with it.
  4. Basic economic phenomenon that are in connection with RBI, like Repo rate etc.
  5. Economic terms of international importance, like Quantitative easing, subprime crisis, monetized debt, participatory note etc.
  6. Static Economic concepts such as inflation, Supply-Demand issues, factors of production and financial inclusion, fiscal and monitory policies, fiscal cliff and consolidation etc. are important.
  7. Union budget and sector wise allocation, Railway budget, committees appointed by union govt., union cabinet ministers and portfolios etc.
  8. Economic survey and areas that are being considered by the Union govt. To be revived in this 204-15,  such as Infrastructure development (Golden quadrilateral), bullet trains proposal, (potato, onion) new status etc.
  9. Current affairs in all aspects like prizes, awards, events took place etc.
  10. Persons in news, basic geography (Gaza strip location), general science (Rainbow formation), biggest solar telescope etc. will come and misc. Concepts.
Suggestion : Good magazine (competitive exams related from Jan-Jun 2014) must read, and IYB 2014 must read.

Reasoning: - This will not be like SBI PO reasoning style, but inferior to that. This is because in all bank exams we have equal weightage for all sections but here we have lot of difference, so don’t expect catastrophic reasoning here. And areas of importance as follow
  1. Seating arrangement (8M)
  2. Inference- argument (1M), Rank (1M), Strong- weak arguments (1/2M), alphabets in between a given word like questions (1M)
  3. Coding-Decoding (6M), course of action (5M), Implicit sentences (5M)
  4. Data sufficiency (5M), Syllogism (6M), line arrangements (7M), symbols used in inequalities such as p&q, r@q, t%s (6M)
  5. Word analogy (2M), Input and Output (5M), Assumption (1/2M), height/weight general comparison questions (2M), Blood relations (1/2M)
  6. Passage given and connected to seating arrangement (6M)
Suggestion: For this topic we must refer areas said above in some reputed Reasoning material and practice more will give us good benefit.

Quantitative aptitude: This section is like a cakewalk for a prepared person which consists of all X class stuff but one or two Data interpretation questions in Pie or Bar or Paragraph style, following are most important areas.
  1. Equation solving both two variables and 3 variables i.e. questions relating to non-zero solutions or trivial solutions and no solution (1/2M)
  2. Powers, Square roots, basic math (3/4M)
  3. Sequences, series (5M), Simple interest and Compound interest, trains, ratio proportion like arithmetic stuff (5/6M), there is possibility of all arithmetic topics to come in this section like boats, pipes and cisterns etc. but simple problems only.
  4. Data interpretation (5/6M), Radar graph (5M), table (5M), in equalities (2/3M).
Suggestion: Prepare this section with X class NCERT books and practice more, even who can know little math can score here more, provided s/he knows Data interpretation well.

English Language: Those who wrote SBI PO exam earlier , simply no need to prepare this section and may spend more time with General awareness, because this is the easiest of all in RBI Grade B exam. Almost questions can be answered by reciting them in mind itself. But one must be careful with jumbled sentences, antonyms and synonyms, Passage (Toughest) will be given, given below are prioritized areas.
  1. Passage (Usually tough) (8/10 M)
  2. Jumbled sentences (5/8M)
  3. Fill in the blanks with two options given (5M)
  4. Antonyms and synonyms worth (5/6M)
  5. Replacing phrases with sentences (5M), Spotting errors (5M)
  6. Finally Closet test (7/10M) so ultimately ends.
Suggestion: Take one practice book let for competitive English or Gr8 ambitionz site is enough to practice.
Note: For General awareness we can’t expect the area wise questions coming and their marks contribution, but based on previous papers from 2004 I have compiled these stats for Reasoning, English, Quantitative aptitude. These are mere implications and subjected to change in the exam and many extra concepts also may come, but one thing is sure that a person familiar with these topics with utmost accuracy will certainly qualify in this first phase exam of RBI Grade B officers.

Time management

Now Finally I want to conclude my post with my view of Time management in this exam. I think this will definitely beneficial to us.
  • First start with English section and finish it within 20 min you can attempt 23/30 questions.
  • Then General awareness within 40 min we can attempt 60/80 questions, this section is little bit time consuming so in two rounds we can answer it. In first round we can answer some questions that just by seeing them we can answer. And in the second round we should study some lengthy questions and can answer them .It is advised to answer from the bottom of this section as cunning RBI will place easiest questions at the bottom that nobody can see them.
  • Now it’s time to do Quantitative aptitude, here also in 20 min. Time we can answer 23/30 questions. This is my mere calculation if anybody can do 30/30 can do but because of negative marking we should be careful and in general 90% people can answer not more than 25 in this short 20 min. Time.
  • Finally do reasoning and allocate 50 min for this and we can easily answer 45/60 questions here with 100% accuracy.
So finally we have answered 151 questions out of 200 with best accuracy, and then it means we can prepare for II phase exam without any fear of disqualification, because 2013 cut off is 126 (General) only. And section wise it is
  • GA -36
  • Eng-14
  • Quant- 14
  • Reasoning-27 only.
Thank you friends’ and Good luck.

    1. Dear friend Online exam is all about having good consciousness and luck besides Knowledge and time management. In this process you can select one answer for the question and then click on "Save and continue",then it will redirect to another question(or even last question of one section to other section also). Here we have advantages like no need to 1)bubbling the circles 2)tuning the pages of question booklet often 3)skipping the questions which are not visible or at remote areas of paper etc.....we can choose the section we like by clicking the appropriate one and can go to any of the 200 questions with a single click. but some limitations also there, here luck plays important role like 1)getting good monitor(LCD) 2)should not touch the key board as the exam software will corrupt and stall at the middle of exam(then nobody will rescue you) 3)we can't see all questions at one place in passage or Data interpretation questions(but don't get panic,as the passage/D.I graph will come for each and every question) 4)some easiest questions will be deliberately placed at the bottom so that candidate may be skip them in situations of running out of time 5)Dagger on the neck is count down,it will haunt you during exam and its vengeance will be at its heights in last couple of minutes. despite these limitations we happily attempt exam because "Clicking" the answer will alleviate us from conventional exam burdens. Finally i will suggest you two things those are selection of section such as GA,English etc. is important before proceeding to the very exam,as i said above in the action plan you can follow, and i am sure that is the best approach. And coming to "Mark as review",it is a gift from Bank's side because it facilitates you to tick the choice you want at the beginning and let you make it available for "Mark as review", so that you can check the question later, even if you can't visit it later due to time constraint, your earlier answer will be considered as final.I hope your queries have addressed now, feel free to ask this forum for further clarifications and queries.Thank you and all the best.

  23. Hi Santosh,
Thanks for sharing such a valuable info.

Can we expect few questions related to Trigonometry??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No friend, there is no scope for Trigonometry to come in this exam,in fact it(trigonometry) won't come in any Bank exams but in SSC-CGL. but in this exam we can expect tough equations to be solved, and cumbersome squares and cubes(with roots also),so be careful with them.Radar graph may be unwanted guest. Earlier(prior to 2010) RBI exam was so tough, and above Civil services level with almost every question 2,3 confused alternatives(1 only, 1,3,4 only, 2 only) like options so it was hard then, but now trend changed, they are squeezing us in Mains(tier-II), so be happy now.All the best

  25. Pratiyogita darpan indian economy book,,,,,,is it suitable for rbi grade b

    ...?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Those are good for Civil services exams,in that exam questions will be elaborate manner, but RBI grade B phase 1 exam focuses on minute details and catchy names, all govt. policies related MCQ's,so policies formulation, execution, scheme inception, evaluation etc. will be asked,so it is more quantitative rather qualitative and 6/7 questions will be in CSAT standards. So I won't prefer you to study those books, but practice those MCQ's at the end of the book and if possible take one GS manual and do all economy related MCQ's.All the best@@@

  26. Pls confirm approx. how many candidate Will be expecting for Level two exam.

    1. Dear friend, we can not expect some figure, it is the mere discretion RBI to select people for Phase-II, but last year 2000+ were qualified for phase-II. But i suggest you to concentrate on cutoff.as i said above in the action plan try to get 150+,you will surely select and can prepare for phase-II.I hope this year number of people who appear for Phase-I it self will be sooo low, because I hope that day Uttar pradesh,West benagl public service commission exams are there,so they may not write this exam. And RBI discouraged General category candidates even to apply for the exam,by charging 850/-(too high for ordinary General category candidate,so they didn't apply),so over all the people who appear for tier-1 will be lower than earlier years, and RBI may take people for phase -II in proportion to the persons appeared. So If you wan to crack RBI officers, this is the right time,Hope We can crack this now,all the best.

    1. dear friend.earlier(up to 2011) we had a provision to download Yearbook(It should be,because it is designed and published by publication division(ministry of information and broadcasting)--->,important question for exam),but now its not free and you should purchase a book, but now for the exam one should not purchase,we cannot read it, so i prefer you to study some recent policies of govt. and their implementation, even i will come with one comprehensive article today,so there we can discuss things in brief, thank you.
