SBI PO 2014 - Why we shouldn't rely on Expected Cutoffs ?

Based on last year's cutoffs there are a number of cutoff predictions for SBI PO 2014 have been circulating among aspirants and various websites. Most of them have been blindly taking the initial values and thinking that getting 13 to 14 marks in each section is enough to clear the exam. But sorry to say friends... it is not enough to get the minimum qualifying marks in each section... In this article, we will try to explain you the reality. This article is not intended to discourage anybody... we just want to tell you the facts, so that you will work more hard and effectively to get your dream job.

To make things easier to understand, we shall consider last year's General cutoffs as an example (but keep in mind that this time the competition will be more tougher. So the cutoffs may vary). In order to clear the SBI PO written exam, you have to overcome four hurdles. Those are,
  1. You have to get minimum qualifying marks in each section
    • In last year's exam the cutoffs were 13 marks each in Reasoning, DI, English and 14 marks in GA.
  2. You have to get minimum qualifying marks in total marks of Objective Test.
    • Last year, this cutoff was 80 Marks. But based on the above individual cutoffs, the total cutoff should be 13+13+13+14 = 53 Marks. That means you not only should secure the minimum qualifying marks in each section but also your overall marks should cross 80 (That means 20 marks on average).
  3. You have to get the minimum qualifying marks to get your descriptive paper to be evaluated.
    •  Last year this cutoff was 108 Marks. That means, your descriptive paper wont be evaluated even though you get the minimum qualifying marks 80 in the objective test. You will be failed even if you get 107 marks in your objective test (that means now the average became around 27 marks)
  4. You should get the overall cutoff (based on the scores of other qualifying candidates)
    • Last year, least marks secured by the candidate who got the interview call was 151 (out of 250 marks). That means the person who got 150 marks out of 250 marks also hadn't got the call (needless to say that now the average is 30+).
Bottom Line : It wont help you even if you get the minimum qualifying scores in each section. Even if you get the minimum score in some sections, you should try to cover it up by getting good marks in other sections. And also keep in mind that, this time the competition is going to be more tougher than the last years'. That means, try to get at least 15 marks in each section, and your total marks should be more than 180 (out of 250). It is not such a difficult task if you mix your preparation with a little hard work and dedication. Focus more on your weaker areas and try to fetch as many marks you can get as possible. After all, we are here to help you..  All the Best :)

    1. You better apply first.

Reasoning & English Sections are completely same for both the exams. Aptitude & Current Affairs which you learn for SSC will be useful for SBI too.

Prepare Reasoning & Aptitude during morning hours. Try to spend 1 hour each for GK, Marketing and Computer Sections (no need to prepare computers on daily basis if you have the basic knowledge on Computers).

Night times you can prepare English. Keep a notebook and try to write your thoughts / a story in English. Do it every day.

Sundays you can dedicate for Practice Tests. Good Luck :)

  24. wat the hell is this reservation system ruling over india. In competitive exams even .5 mark is important.. and true hard worker should win. But dis bledy reservation system ....and 500 application fee for general and 100 application fee for reservation candidates. Wats dis.. evn der r people who dont have single rupee In general category tooooooo......
wat dis hectic and worst system.in india. For ibps clerk cut off for sc st is very less and for bc 10 percent more. And for general its the highest cutofff... what the general category students have done.. missing our future in .5 or 0.3 mark kya. Bledy system.
All reservation category people are getting without any struggle even application fee is less for them. general category students .hav to pay 500 and should loose in 0.5 mark kya. in education system merit is merit. Dats it. Get lost dis bledy system...

    1. yes you are true. i m also failed in various exams due to this reservation system.

    2. yes you are right , govt should take some steps

    3. Yeah...You r right... when they stop this?? Even in teaching field, if they recruit a candidate who can not even pass, how that person can teach students so that they gain knowledge and score well in exams??? That's y people are not sending their children to SARKAARI schools... Ambedkar had put a limit for this system, but these dirty politicians are extending it for votes.. For how many years we have to read that INDIA is still a DEVELOPING COUNTRY??? Can't we make it a developed Country yaar???

    1. Objective u hv to get 150 and descriptive 30 to get 180 out of 250

150/200 is tough but if the cutoff is at that level u hv to get that much.

  35. Mam i am giving sbi po for first time in my life...sorry i was not understood your 3rd point...if 80 Marks is the cut-off out of 200 then what is 108 marks??
Descriptive paper will be evaluated if you got cut off marks in the first paper i.e. objective test...written in SBI PO advertisement / Notification released.....

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Forget 80 marks.
Last year last candidate who got selected for GD/PI round got 151/250

If he got 30 marks in descriptive paper then out of 200 he got 121 marks.

So u need to get 120-130 ,marks out of 200 in Objective paper.
If the cutoff decreases this year then you can score less and get in.

  36. Mam i am giving SBI PO exam for the first time in my life...sorry could not understand your 3rd point....if Cut-Off Marks was 80 in the objective test...then what is 108 ??
Descriptive exam is evaluated if we clear cut-off of objective test,as written in SBI PO advertisement/Notification Released...then why 108 marks (acc. to your 3rd point) is required??....o_O

  49. Nice article !! Though wont agree with u.. mere rise in competition dosn't mean that cut off will increase..cut off depend on many factors..however most probably cut off will decrease, as this time around its going to be online exam.. and it would be difficult to attempt all question in Quant and Reasoning section even if they maintain same standard of paper as of last year..

My CGPA is 6.96 which by taking into consideration the percentage rule, it comes to 6.21%. But I have mentioned my percentage as 69.6% in my SBI PO 2014 application form (since, at that time I didn't know the rule). Will there be any problem afterwards? Please reply as soon as possible

  57. In 2012 IBPS PO written exam cutoff was 135 out of 250 for general (pen & paper based xam)....where as in 2013 IBPS PO the cutoff came down to 61 out of 200 (online xam).....As SBI is conducting online exam for the first time, cutoff will definitely come down as compared to previous year....

  58. Sincere thanks..

I have a query regarding Desc Test marks..

I was told that for Desc test, scoring minimum qualifying marks is sufficient, as the entire marks will not be considered for merit list... I'm not very much sure about this piece of info, please clarify on this..

    Thanks again
