But after 2010, it has started conducting an objective Common Exam for all the posts (Combined Graduate Level Exam, CGLE in short). The SSC has started adding more and more posts and also speed up the recruitment process (now please don't ask me about the results of SSC CGL 2013 :P). Ok, jokes apart, now it has became one of the promising and largest competitive exams of the country after bank exams. You might already have read about the exam pattern of ssc cgl 2014. What is the problem with making random preferences in SSC CGL ?

The Staff Selection Commission strictly follows the order given by you. In other words, even if you topped in SSC CGLE 2014, you should end up with the least paying / boring job if you made that as your first preference.

Can I change the order of preference once I complete registration ?

Unfortunately, you can't change the order of preference once you complete your registration. But you can re-apply with new order of preferences. The latest application will be taken into consideration (source). 

Can I blindly follow the preferences given by Gr8AmbitionZ ?

Of course No.  We made this list of preferences based on various factors like job profile, social status, work pressure and working environment etc. This will help you to get a basic idea on the job profiles and importance of the jobs. We advise you to make your own preferences based on your interests related to various factors (read below for a clear idea) by keeping our list and the SSC CGL 2014 notification in mind. 

What factors should I consider while giving my preferences of SSC CGL 2014?

• For SSC CGL 2014 mainly there are two types of posts. Those are 1. Desk Jobs and 2. Field Jobs. We've clearly marked them in the list. So you just pick the type of jobs you want to join and give preferences based on that. Here goes a brief introduction.
• The Desk job that you do in an office working at a desk. There is no physical strain in these type of jobs. 
• The Field job is exactly opposite to the Desk Job. In these type of jobs you have to work on various locations and you need to travel more. 
• Interview based / Non interview based jobs. If you don't want to attend for interviews then you can give importance to Non Interview posts.
• Delhi based jobs. For these jobs you have to work in Delhi. That means you permanently have to shift to Delhi if you join in these jobs. 
• Statistics related jobs. Two jobs in the list (post codes R and $) requires statistics as one of the subjects in your graduation. You should not apply for these jobs if you are a non statistics student.
