National Events

  • The Right of the Citizens for Time bound Delivery of Goods and Services Bill, 2011 gets cabinet approval. It’s intended to promote transparency and accountability of government to its citizens. It also provides for grievancereddressal mechanism and intend to impose fines upon the officials who failed to deliver quality services in time, ranging from Rs.250 to Rs.50,000.
  • Lawyers protest continued even for the second day demanding passage of Lawyers welfare bill, allowance of Rs.2000 , houses at subsidised costs and many other. Protest turned violent as police crackdown on them.
  • Late Pandit Ravi Shankar presented first annual Tagore Award for Cultural Harmony by Pranab Mukherjee at RashtrapathiBhavan. SukanyaShankar,wife of Ravi Shankar received this award.
  • Centre granted permission to prosecute IAS officer Y.Srilakshmi, arrested in illegal mining case(OMC). She’s going to be prosecuted under Prevention Of Corruption Act, 1988.

International Events

  • Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was sentenced to 1 year jail for violating secrecy laws.
  • 20 members of UN peace keeping force in Syria were taken hostage by Syrian rebels in the Golan Heights along Syria-Israel border.
  • US state department invited proposal to award $500,000 each for 2 projects- one for increasing support and safety for journalists and second for reconciliation, both for Sri Lanka. It attained importance in the context of UNHRC resolution on Sri Lanka in this month.
  • UN Security Council imposed new sanctions against North Korea for conducting nuclear test, imposed penalties in banking,trade and travel.

Economy

  • Moody’s, the global rating agency warned Indian government that GDP growth rate beyond 7% without structural reforms’ll lead to more inflation.
  • Finance Minister P.Chidambaram going to address RBI central borad today in his customary meeting after budget.

Sports

  • Hyderabad’s K.Srinivas(20) was won national carom championship. He became youngest to win the title after beating former world champion YogeshPardesi.
  • As expected, VirendarSehwag  lost his place in Indian Test cricket team for the next test matches with Australia. Left handed ShikharDhawan is expected to replace him as opener in the next test at Mohali.
