Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "Old friends: on India-Iran bilateral ties"
  • Bilateral - involving two groups or countries
  • Terminal - a large building where train, boat, or bus services start and finish
  • Deliberations - discussions in which a subject is considered carefully
  • Enhance - to improve something, or to make it more attractive or more valuable
  • Remedy - a solution to a particular problem
  • Investment - the process of spending money in order to improve something or make it more successful
  • Concession - something you give or allow to someone in order to reach an agreement
  • Import - a product from another country, that is bought with money from your country
  • Repatriate - to send money that you earn in a foreign country back to your own country
  • Facilitate - to make it possible or easier for something to happen
  • Sanction - an official order to stop communication, trade, etc with a country that has broken international law
  • Slash - to reduce something by a large amount
  • Generous - kind, friendly, and helpful
  • Strategic - carefully planned in order to achieve a particular goal, especially in war, business, or politics
  • Imperative - extremely important or urgent
  • Substantive - important or serious
  • Productive - achieving good results
  • Endorse -  to express support for someone or something, especially in public
  • Veto - to officially refuse to approve or allow something
  • Diversity - the fact that very different people or things exist within a group or place
  • Sanctuary - official protection given to someone by a place that is safe for them
  • Roll out the red carpet for someone - to give special treatment to an important visitor
  • Amid - if something happens amid particular feelings or events, it happens while people have these feelings or while these events are happening
  • Uncertainty - a nervous feeling that you have because you think bad things might happen
  • Implication - a possible effect or result
  • Overture - a suggestion or offer that you make to someone

  • Hitch wagon to - to attempt to benefit from something or someone else's success or potential by closely associating with it or them
  • Bank on somebody / something - to depend on something happening or on someone doing something
  • Heft - power or strength
  • Mere - only / just
  • Spectacular - extremely impressive
  • Let alone - used for saying that something is even less likely to happen than another unlikely thing
