Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : "The rot in farming: on farmers agitation and sustainable pricing for their produce"
  • Rot - decay (to become damaged by a gradual natural process)
  • Agitation - a feeling of being worried or upset
  • Sustainable - capable of continuing for a long time at the same level
  • Domino effect - a situation in which one event causes a whole series of other events to happen one after the other
  • Write-off - a period of time when you fail to achieve anything
  • Marginal - very small
  • Agitating - to try to cause social or political changes by arguing or protesting, or through other political activity
  • Waiver - an official statement or document that says a right, claim, or law can be officially ignored or given up

  • Largesse - generous acts of giving presents or money to a large number of people
  • Inflationary - relating to or likely to cause an increase in prices
  • Slippage - a situation in which something is delayed or not achieved when it should be
  • Short-sighted - dealing with things that are happening now but failing to consider what will happen in the future
  • Angst - a strong feeling of worry about what you should do, how you should behave, or what will happen in the future
  • Keep up with something - to continue to be informed about something
  • Address - to consider / deal with a problem
  • Holistically - completely (instead of treating in parts)
  • Deflation - the general reduction of prices and the level of economic activity in an economy
  • Fire sale - an occasion when goods are sold at low prices because a shop or factory has been damaged by fire
  • Demonetisation - to officially stop using particular notes or coins, or a particular currency
  • Moderating - becoming less
  • Tepid - not very excited or enthusiastic
  • Distress - a feeling that you have when you are very unhappy, worried, or upset
  • Aggravate - to make a bad situation worse

  • Concede - to stop trying to win a war, competition, or argument because you realize that you cannot win it
  • Creaky - no longer working well or in good condition
  • Aura - a quality that seems to surround or come from a person, place, or situation
  • Significant - very important
  • Thrashing - an easy victory in a game or competition
  • Vividly - very clearly
  • Tactical - a tactical action is one that you do as part of a plan for achieving what you want
  • Nous - intelligence combined with the ability to be practical
  • Fortnight - a period of two weeks
  • Glimpse - an experience that gives you an idea of what something is like
  • Devastating - causing a lot of harm or damage
  • Triumph - a great victory or success
  • Maiden - being the first of its type
  • Unseeded - an unseeded tennis player is not expected to win a competition and has not been given a position on the official list of best players
  • Panache - an impressive way of doing something that shows great skill and confidence
  • Nerveless - someone who is nerveless does not become afraid or upset in difficult situations
  • Poise - a controlled and relaxed way of behaving, even in difficult situations
  • Dividend - profit
  • Persisting - to continue to exist
  • Admittedly - used for saying that you admit something is true, especially when this makes your main idea weaker
  • Shorn - to remove a part of something by cutting or breaking it,
  • Regardless - without being affected or influenced by someone or something
  • Notch - a little higher in quality than someone or something
  • Testament - proof
