Hindu Editorial Topic 1 : " Babri Masjid demolition trials: Ayodhya again"

  • Demolition - the act of destroying something, such as a building or other structure
  • Trial - the process of examining a case in a court of law and deciding whether someone is guilty or innocent
  • Breathes new life into something - to provide something with new ideas, new energy etc, so that it improves and is more likely to be successful again
  • Moribund - not active or successful
  • Prosecution - the process or act of accusing someone of a crime and asking a court of law to judge them
  • A new lease of life - a change to something that makes it more modern or useful
  • Reinforce - if something reinforces an idea or opinion, it provides more proof or support for it and makes it seem true
  • Resolution - the act of solving or ending a problem or difficulty
  • Horribly - extremely, especially in a very bad or unpleasant way
  • Mere - only / just
  • Technicality - a minor detail of the law that can lead to an unfair result
  • Numberless - too many to be counted
  • Inciting - to encourage people to be violent or commit crimes by making them angry or excited
  • Ill-will - a strong feeling that you dislike someone and wish them harm
  • Hatred - a very strong feeling that you dislike someone or something very much
  • Proceedings - the actions taken, usually in court, to settle a legal matter
  • Regrettable - making you feel sad or sorry because something happened that you wish had not happened

  • Ambition - something that you very much want to do, usually something that is difficult to achieve
  • Continuance - the process of continuing
  • Charge-sheet - to accuse someone officially of committing a crime and ask them to reply to the charge or defend themselves
  • Predicament - a difficult or unpleasant situation that is not easy to get out of
  • Propriety - behaviour that follows accepted social or moral standards
  • Fateful - having an important and usually negative effect on the future
  • Immunity - a situation in which you are protected against disease or from legal action
  • Gubernatorial - relating to a governor
  • Demit - to resign from (an office)
  • Compulsion - a very strong feeling of wanting to do something repeatedly that is difficult to control
  • Waxe eloquent - to speak or write in the stated way
  • Probity - complete honesty

  • Regime - a particular government or a system or method of government
  • Street cred - respect or admiration among young fashionable people, especially in a city
