International Current Affairs
  • India has cancelled the maritime talks with Pakistan, which were to be held during 16th to 19th April 2016 in New Delhi, over death sentence to Kulbhushan Jadhav on charges of spying. 
    • The talks were to be held to discuss issues related to fishermen and search and rescue operations.
  • The Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bomb, which was dropped by the US in Afghanistan on Thursday, costs $16 million (₹103 crore) apiece.  
    • Only 20 MOABs, also known as 'Mother Of All Bombs', have been commissioned till date. 
    • The 21,600-pound bomb is 30 feet long and 40 inches in diameter and can only be dropped from specially modified cargo aircraft.
  • Russia, Syria and Iran have called on the US to refrain from attacks similar to those in Syria, saying that such attacks have "serious effects not only for regional, but also global security". 
    • The countries said that US missile strike on Syria was an act of international aggression and that it violated principles of international law and the UN Charter.
  • Nepal and China is all set to hold their 1st ever joint military exercise named ‘Sagarmatha Friendship-2017’.
    • This 10 day long exercise will be held during 17th to 26th April 2017.
    • This joint exercise will focus on combating terror and disaster management. 
    • Important Note : This is for the first time it is holding a joint exercise with China.
National Current Affairs
  • Himachal Pradesh is celebrating 70th "Himachal Day" today. 
    • The hill state came into existence after the merger of 30 odd princely states in 1948.
  • Maharashtra is set to become the first state to launch a special awareness drive to ensure that transgenders in the state register as voters.
    • The state branch of the Election Commission of India (ECI) will launch the drive on April 15, celebrated as Third Gender Day
    • Note : Maharashtra has over 10 lakh transgenders and only about 1,700 are registered voters.
  • Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today prohibited the inscription of names of any government functionaries, including ministers and MLAs, on foundation stones and inaugural plaques.
  • Assam has decided to install CCTV cameras inside examination halls to keep a check on rampant cheating during board exams. 
  • Goa CM Manohar Parrikar has announced that the government is planning to ban entry of locals into casinos.
  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday laid the foundation stone for the ₹100-crore Dr BR Ambedkar memorial park in Amaravati, marking the 126th birth anniversary of the architect of Indian Constitution. Naidu also laid the foundation stone for a 126-ft statue of Ambedkar that will come up in the park, which would be spread across 20 acres.

MOUs & Agreements
  • The Uttar Pradesh government has signed “Power for All” pact with the Centre to provide 24×7 power supply to all the households in the State. 
    • This MOU was signed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal
    • With this signing of the agreement, Uttar Pradesh which was the only state in the country which did not join the central government scheme has finally joined in it.

Science & Technology
  • The biggest conventional bomb that India has is called the 'Smart Precise Impact and Cost Effective' or SPICE bomb, which is under the command of the Indian Air Force. It is manufactured by Israeli firm Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Ltd. The 2,000-pound bomb is a precision-guided bomb that can be carried on French-origin Mirage 2000 fighter jets.

Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has come up with a notification titled “Revised Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework for banks.”
    • The revised framework would apply to all banks operating in India including small and foreign banks. 
    • The new set of provisions will be effective from April 1 based on the financials of banks as of March 2017. 
    • The revised framework will override the existing PCA framework. 
    • This framework will be again reviewed after three years.
  • India Licensing Expo is scheduled to be held on August 20-21 in Mumbai
    • The expo will be India’s first and most influential brand licensing event that will collate opportunities, knowledge and recognitions under one roof. 
    • The expo will be organised by License India, India’s first licensing media Services Company and supported by Franchise India.

Awards & Honors
  • Actor Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with a tribute at the ongoing 60th San Francisco Film Festival today.

Deaths
  • Former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Saxena (90) passed away.
    • He was an Indian Police Service officer of the 1950 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. 
    • He served two terms as the governor of Jammu and Kashmir. 
    • He also served as the head of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) from 1983 to 1986, and also as an advisor to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

People in News
  • National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has won the Srinagar Lok Sabha by-poll after defeating PDP candidate Nazir Ahmad Khan by around 10,000 votes.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Mann Kaur, a 101-year-old great-grandmother, will represent India at the World Masters Games, considered as the "Olympics for veterans", in Auckland from April 21. 
    • She will compete in the 100-metre, 200-metre, shot put and javelin events in the 100-plus category. 
  • Gujarat Lions' Suresh Raina became the first player in Indian Premier League's history to feature in 150 matches after appearing against Rising Pune Supergiant on Friday. 
  • The Indian men's hockey team will not participate in the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia for the second year in a row, citing Pakistan's presence in the event.
