Hello everyone, in our Lesson 62, we learnt about the prefix RetroRetro represents the meanings back; backwards. Today we shall see the prefix Se. Happy Reading :)

Day 63 : Se

  • Se - apart; aside; without
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • separate (adjective) = not joined to something else
    • se - Prefix = apart
    • para (parare) - Root = prepare
    • ate - Suffix = having
  • secure (adjective) = feeling happy and confident about yourself or a particular situation
    • se - Prefix = without
    • cur (cura) - Root = care
Let's have a look at some more words with prefixes, for better understanding.
  • Secede - withdraw; to separate oneself from government
  • Secern - withdraw; to separate oneself from government
  • Secession - state of withdrawal from government
  • Seclude - set apart; aside
  • Seclusion - state of being shut apart; along
  • Secret - a thing apart; hidden
  • Secretary - a person who works in an office, working for another person
  • Secrete - to hide away; store away; as, to secrete stolen goods
  • Secretion - matter stored away for functional use
  • Secretive - disposed to keep secrets; as, secretive by nature
  • Secure - Set aside carefully; to protect
  • Security - protection against something bad that might happen in the future
  • Sedition - conduct tending to treason
  • Seditionist - one who practices acts of sedition
  • Seduce - to lead astray by fraud
  • Seducive - attractive; causing to be led astray
  • Segregate - to cut off from the general mass; seclude
  • Select - to choose one from many and set it apart
  • Separate - to disunite; to disconnect; to sever from others
  • Sequestration - separation; retirement from society
Home Work :
Try to guess the meanings of the following elements.

a. mind

d. to laugh
