Hello everyone, in our Lesson 61, we learnt about the prefix ReRe represents the meanings again; backToday we shall see the prefix retro. Happy Reading :)

Day 62 : retro

  • Retro - back; backwards
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • retrograde (adjective) = returning to how something was in the past
    • retro - Prefix = backwards
    • grade (gradi) - Root = to walk
  • retrospect (noun) = thinking about past event or situations
    • retro - Prefix = back
    • spect (specere) - Root = to look
Let's have a look at some more words with prefixes, for better understanding.

  • retroactive - descriptive of any event or stimulus or process that has an effect on the effects of events or stimuli or process that occurred previously
  • retrocede - to move back
  • retrofit - provide with parts, devices, or equipment not available or in use at the time of the original manufacture
  • retroflex - turned backwards
  • retrograde - going backward
  • retrogress - get worse or fall back to a previous condition
  • retrogression - passing from a more complex to a simpler biological form
  • retroject - to throw backwards
  • retrolingual - behind tongue
  • retrospect - when you consider something in retrospect, you look back on or think about what happened in the past with the advantage of knowing more now than you did then.
  • retrospection - thinking about a past event or situation
  • retrospective - concerned with or related to the past
  • retroverse - turned backwards
  • retrovirus - any of a group of viruses that contain two single-strand linear RNA molecules per virion and reverse transcriptase (RNA to DNA)
