Hello everyone, in our Lesson 53, we learnt about the prefix PeriPeri represents the meanings aound; aboutToday we shall see the prefix poly. Happy Reading :)

Day 54 : Poly

  • Poly - many;much
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • polymer (noun) = having many parts
    Vocabulary Important English
    • poly - Prefix = many
    • mer (mros) - Root = a share
  • polytechnic (noun) = a college for higher education, esp. in scientific and technical subjects
    • poly - Prefix = many
    • techn (tekhne) - Root = art
    • ic - Suffix = connected with
Let's have a look at some more words with poly prefixes, for better understanding.
  • Polyanthus - a type of plant, especially primrose, which has many flowers
  • Polyarchy - a government ruled by many persons
  • Polychord - a viol-shaped instrument with ten strings
  • Polychotomous - having many branches; many parts
  • Polychotomy - division into many parts or branches
  • Polychresty - usefulness for many purposes; as, a word of many meanings
  • Polychromatic - having many colors
  • Polydactyl - having more than the normal number of fingers or toes
  • Polydemic - native to many countries
  • Polyesthesia - a disorder of body, in which a single touch or other stimulus is felt as several.
  • Polyethnic - inhabited by many races
  • Polygamy - the custom of plural wives or husbands
  • Polyglot - one who knows many languages; a linguist
  • Polygon - a (closed plane) figure with many angles
  • Polygraphy - literary productiveness; writing on a variety of subjects
  • Polyhedron - a solid figure having many planes faces
  • Polymath - a person who knows a lot about many different subjects
  • Polymorphic - having many forms
  • Polyneuriti - inflammation of many nerves at ones
  • Polynomial - a sum of two or more
  • Polytheism - the belief that there is more than one God
