Hello everyone, in our Lesson 45, we learnt about the prefixes Mono, MonMono, Mon represent the meanings one; single; aloneToday we shall see the prefix neo. Happy Reading :)

Day 46 : Neo

  • Neo - new; recent
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • neonatal (adjective) = connected with a child that has just been born
    • new (neos) - Root = recent
    • nat - Root = be born
    • al - Suffix = connected with 
  • neoliberal (adjetive) = relating to the believes in a global free market
    • neo - Root = recent
    • liber - Root = free
    • al - Suffix = related to
Let's have a look at some more words with neo prefixes, for better understanding.
  • Neoblastic - having the nature of new growth
  • Neocene - belonging to the tertiary period
  • Neocosmic - relating to the present known world and races
  • Neocracy - government by new, inexperienced officials
  • Neocriticism - the new philogophy, rejecting Kant
  • Neo-Darwinism - a new form of Darwin’s theory
  • Neofetus - a new form of Darwin’s theory
  • Neogenesis - a new formation or regeneration of tissue
  • Neo-Gothic - art based on study of medieval Gothic
  • Neogrammarian - a new, scientific direction to linguistics
  • Neo-Hellenism - the practice of ancient Greek ideals in modern life and art
  • Neolatry - the worship of the new, the novelty
  • Neolithic - relating to the era when polished stone implements were used
  • Neology    - the use of new words in the language
  • Neomenia - the festival of the new moon
  • Neomorph - a new form not derived from an ancestor
  • Neon - a gaseous element used in neon lights
  • Neophrastic - relating to neology
  • Neophyte - a new convert; a novice; a beginner
  • Neologism - a new word

Try to guess the meanings of the following elements.
