Hello everyone, in our Lesson 41, we learnt about the prefix MetaMeta represents the meanings to change; beyondToday we shall see the prefix micro. Happy Reading :)

Day 42 : Micro

  • micro -small; minute
Let's try to understand this with some examples
  • microgram (noun) = one millionth of a gram
    • micro - Prefix = small
    • gram - Root = a unit for measuring weight
  • microbiology (noun) = the scientific study of very small living things, such as bacteria
    • micro - Prefix = small
    • bio (bios) - Root = life
    • logy - Suffix = a subject of study
Let's have a look at some more words with micro prefixes, for better understanding.
  • Micro light - a very small, light, one- or two-seater aircraft
  • Micro logy - the art of handling microscopic objects
  • Micro mania - a delusion that one’s body has become very small
  • Micro motion - relating to the study of microscopic motions
  • Microaudiphone - an instrument to make slight sounds audible
  • Microbarograph - an instrument for recording small and rapid changes
  • Microbe - minute organism; a germ
  • Microbicide - any agent which destroys microbes
  • Microcephalous - having an abnormally small head
  • Microcomputer - a small computer that contains a microprocessor
  • Microcosm - asmall world
  • Microcosmography - a description of man as a microcosm
  • Microfinance - loans and other financial services for people who are poor, and who cannot normally get these services from banks
  • Microgram - one millionth of a gram
  • Micrograph - an instrument for writing and engraving minutely
  • Micrographer - a specialist in micrography
  • Microinstruction - a command that is written in microcode
  • Microlith - a tiny stone implement
  • Micromelia - a condition where the extremities are abnormally undeveloped
  • Micrometer - instrument for measuring minute distances
  • Microphone - instrument to intensify slight sounds
  • Microscope - instrument to examine objects too small to be seen by the naked eye
