International Affairs
  • 7th September (1st Monday in September) is National Labor Day in USA.
    • It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.
  • Chinese and Pakistani forces have launched joint air drill named 'Shaheen (Eagle)-4'
    • This is Fourth exercise in part of a series of military exchange programmes between the two air forces.
    • The first such drill was held in Pakistan in March 2011, the second in China's western Xinjiang Uygur region in September 2013 and the third was held in Pakistan's Punjab province in May 2014.

  • The Union Government has announced that it is going to Develop Bodhgaya as Spiritual Capital.
    • About Bodh Gaya :

    • It is said that Bodh Gaya is the place where Gautam Buddha attained Enlightenment under a Neem tree which is known as the Bodhi Tree.
    • The exact spot where Buddha sat for 49 days and meditated is now marked by the Mahabodhi Temple complex.
    • Bodh Gaya is one of the main Buddhists' pilgrimage sites. The town is also home to dozens of Buddhist monasteries.
  • The Sixth joint military training exercise, 'EKUVRIN 2015', between the Indian Army and the Maldives National Defence Forces (MNDF) was begin at Pangode military station, Thiruvanathapuram, in Kerala.
    • A total of 45 marines from the MNDF and 45 soldiers of the Indian Army are taking part in this exercise.
    • The bilateral annual exercise, which started in 2009 in Belgaum, Karnataka, is alternately held in India and Maldives with the aim of enhancing military cooperation and interoperability between the two countries and increased understanding between the Indian Army and the MNDF.
    • This year's joint training is the first exercise involving an international contingent to be conducted at Thiruvananthapuram, which is being developed as a training node by the Indian Army.
Business & Economy
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced that it is implementing a new numbering system and seven new security features in all currency notes, especially in high denomination Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes, in order to check the menace of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN).  
    • The Bhartiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Pvt Limited (BRBNMPL) and Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) have initiated steps for introduction of the revised number pattern.
  • State-run telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has announced that it has decided to upgrade landline broadband speed to minimum 2 Mbps at no additional cost for all the broadband customers on pan-India basis from 1st October 2015.
    • The company currently offers a minimum speed of 512 Kbps and the move is part of its efforts for revival.
    • This is another major service offering from BSNL for the benefits of customers in continuation to offering free night calling from BSNL landline  to all operator network from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM and free incoming roaming services for its mobile customers
    • BSNL is also offering 1Gb free E-Mail box to their customers from 50 Mb mail box.
  • Anil Ambani-led Reliance Defence Ltd (RDL) has signed an MoU with Abu Dhabi Ship Building to set up a strategic partnership for construction of naval ships, including frigates and destroyers to address the demands of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), over the next 10 years.
    • About RDL and ADSB :
    • RDL is a fully owned subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd while Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) is a leading provider of construction, repair and refit services for naval, military and commercial vessels.  
Science & Technology
  • GSAT-6, India's latest communication satellite has been successfully positioned in its orbital slot.
  • Note : The ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) had successfully launched GSAT-6, having an indigenous cryogenic engine, on-board GSLV-D6 rocket from the spaceport at Sriharikota on 27th August 2015.
  • After the launch ISRO had performed successive orbit raising operation of the satellite and had also deployed the unfurlable antenna ( UFA) successfully.
  • About GSAT - 6
    • GSAT-6 is the 25th geostationary communication satellite of India built by ISRO and 12th in the GSAT series.
    • It provides communication through five spot beams in S-band and a national beam in C-band for strategic users.
    • The mission life of the satellite is 9 years.
