International Current Affairs
- Today (13th February) is World Radio Day.
- The day is observed every year on the 13 of February to celebrate radio as a forum for entertainment and information, as a bridge of communication for remote communities and its role in empowering people.
- This day marks the first broadcast by UN radio in 1946.
- It was proclaimed on 3 November 2011 by UNESCO's 36th General Conference.
- It was originally proposed by the Kingdom of Spain.
- First world radio day was observed in the year 2012.
- Theme of World Radio Day 2018 : “Radio and Sports”.
- The 6th edition of World Government Summit (WGS) 2018, a global platform dedicated to shaping future of government worldwide, was concluded today at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
- Pakistan's President Mamnoon Hussain has signed an ordinance amending the country's Anti-Terrorism Act to list groups sanctioned by the United Nations Security Council as terrorist organisations.
- The move designates 26/11 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed-led groups Jamaat-ud Dawa (JuD) and Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF) as terror outfits which were earlier not banned by Pakistan.
- The International Conference on Unani Medicine was held in New Delhi.
- This conference was organised by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), under Ministry of AYUSH.
- Theme of this conference : "Integration of Unani System of Medicine in main stream healthcare".
- Tanzanian President John Magufuli has announced that the country will pull out of the UN's "comprehensive refugee response framework", which provides lasting solutions for refugees, including integration into host communities, citing security reasons and lack of funds.
- Note : Tanzania has long been considered as safe haven for refugees, particularly from conflict hit Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burundi.
National Current Affairs
- According to a report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), the CM of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu is the richest Chief Minister in India with declared assets worth over ₹177 crore.
- Naidu is followed by Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu with assets worth over ₹129 crore and Punjab's Amarinder Singh with ₹48 crore.
- Note : Tripura's Manik Sarkar with ₹27 lakh is the Poorest Chief Minister in India.
- Former Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio, the chief ministerial candidate of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, has been declared elected unopposed before the polls set for February 27.
- This comes after the only other candidate from the constituency, Chupfuo Angami from the Naga People’s Front, withdrew his nomination.
- Uttar Pradesh State government in association with UNICEF launched massive door to door campaign titled DASTAK, to eradicate deadly Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) and Japanise Encephalitis (JE) disease in the state.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
- Bank of Baroda is going to exit the South African market amid allegations that politically connected Gupta family used its network for illicit transactions.
- Bank of Baroda was the last lender in South Africa that offered services to Guptas' companies.
- The 4th meeting of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) was held in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Dr BibekDebroy, Chairman, EAC-PM & Member, NITI Aayog.
- During the meeting, EAC-PM discussed the possible modalities of implementing National Health Scheme announced by the government in Union Budget-2018-19.
- Besides, presentations were also made on Health Reforms, World Bank Report on Indian Economy and on Indian Fiscal – Monetary Framework.
Awards & Honors
- Indonesia's Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has won the 'Best Minister in the World' award at the World Government Summit in Dubai.
- She was honored with this prestigious award for her efforts in implementing successful reforms to tackle corruption and increase transparency in her country.
New Appointments
- Jnanpith recipient and Kannada litetrateur Chandrashekhar Kambar has been appointed as the new President of the Sahitya Akademi.
- He will serve for a period of 5 years.
- Note : Hindi poet Madhav Kaushik was elected as vice president of the Sahitya Akademi.
Sports Current Affairs
- Former Australian spinner Shane Warne has been appointed as the mentor of Rajasthan Royals for this IPL season.
- World's first robot ski competition was held in South Korea.
- 8 teams from local universities and tech firms took part in the competition.
