Friends, New India Assurance Company Limited has released the State wise & Category wise Cutoff marks details of NIACL Assistants Preliminary Online Exam 2018. As you know, the organization has invited online applications for filling up the posts of Assistants in Class III Cadre from 16th to 31st July 2018, conducted preliminary examination on 8th September 2018 and released the results of the same on 19th September 2018. International Current Affairs
  • Maldives opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has won the Presidential elections after having received 134,616 votes as compared to 96,132 votes received by incumbent President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
  • The Wild Tiger population of Nepal has reached 235, nearly doubling the baseline of around 121 tigers in 2009. 
    • The last survey in 2013 had estimated the tiger population at 198.
    • If these trends continue, Nepal could become the 1st country to double its tiger population, since the launch of the TX2 goal to double the world's wild tiger population by 2022.
  • The 5th meeting of Boundary Working Group (BWG) between India and Nepal held in Kathmandu.
    • During this meet, both countries have agreed to explore possibility of using high resolution satellite images in boundary survey work.  

National Current Affairs
  • To mark the second anniversary of Surgical Strike carried out by the Indian Army, India is going to celebrate a three-day event titled 'Parakram Parva (पराक्रमपर्व)' from 28th to 30th September 2018. 
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the celebrations at India Gate.
    • Note : Surgical Strike is an operation carried out by the Special Forces of Indian Army on September 28-29, 2016 wherein they destroyed terror launchpads across the Line of Control (LoC) inflicting maximum damage to terrorists and Pakistani forces backing them.

India gets 100th Airport

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated an the Greenfield Aiport at Pakyong (Sikkim). This is the 100th Aiport in India. This is the 1st and only aiport in Sikkim. The nearest airport from Sikkim is located 124 km away in Bagdogra in West Bengal.

The Pakyong airport, located 30 km from Sikkim's capital Gangtok, is expected to improve the connectivity to the land-locked state nestled in the Himalayas and give a boost to its tourism. It will
start its commercial operations from the first week of October. Spicejet’s Bombardier Q-400 aircraft will ferry passengers to and from Sikkim, Guwahati, and Kolkata.

Under the Union government’s UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) regional connectivity scheme, the private carrier will operate daily direct flights between Pakyong and Kolkata from October 4 and between Pakyong and Guwahati from October 16. Pakyong is SpiceJet’s ninth destination under the scheme.

The airport is spread over 201 acres and is located on top of a hill about two km above Pakyong village at 4,500 feet above sea level. The runway of the Pakyong airport is 1.75 km

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna - World's Largest Govt Healthcare Scheme launched

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the government-funded health insurance scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (PMJAY) in Ranchi (Jharkhand). The cashless scheme is part of the government’s Ayushman Bharat umbrella policy for healthcare. This scheme offers an annual cover of ₹5 lakh to economically weaker sections of society. This is the world's largest public health insurance scheme

The scheme will target poor, deprived rural families and identified occupational category of urban workers’ families, 80.3 million in rural and 23.3 million in urban areas, as per the latest Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) data. It will cover around 50 crore people.

The National Health Agency (NHA), the apex body implementing the scheme has launched a website (mera.pmjay.gov.in) and a helpline number (14555) for this scheme.

India’s official entry to Oscars 2019 - Village Rockstars

National Award Winning Assamese language film "Village Rockstars" has been selected to represent India for for this year's OSCARS.

The movie, directed by Rima Das, follows the story of a ten-year-old girl (played by child actor Bhanita Das) with dreams to form her own rock band, who goes in search of an electric guitar in her village. Das is not only the director, but also the writer, cinematographer, editor and producer of the film, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2017.

A 12-membered jury — led by Mr SV Rajendra Singh Babu — picked the film from 27 other contenders, including Hichki, Padmaavat, Raazi, Love Sonia, Nude, Pihu and Padman. The film is going to represent india In the Best Foreign Language category at the 91st Academy Awards (OSCARS 2019).

Important Note : 'Village Rockstars' had bagged the Best Feature Film award at the 65th National Film Awards, besides also winning the awards for Best Child Artist, Best Location Sound Recordist and Best Editing. Village Rockstars was the 1st Assam movie to win the National Award in 29 years

Last year, Amit Masurkar's acclaimed Black Comedy film starred by Rajkummar Rao, "Newton" has been selected as India's entry to OSCARS 2018, but couldn't make it to the finals.

National Sports Awards 2018 Winners List

The government recently announced the winners list of National Sports Awards for the year 2018. Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli and weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu are going to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award- India's highest sports honour. With this, Kohli will become the 3rd Indian cricketer to be honored with this prestegious award after Sachin Tendulkar (1997) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (2007).   • Today (23rd September) is International Day of Sign Languages.
    • This day aims to raise awareness of the importance of sign language in the full realization of the human rights of people who are deaf. 
    • Theme of International Day of Sign Languages 2018 : “With Sign Language, Everyone is Included!”.
  • The inaugural General Assembly of International Solar Alliance (ISA) is going to be held on 2nd October 2018 in New Delhi
    • It will be followed by ministerial level assembly of ISA following day which will be held in Greater Noida.
    • About ISA :
    • The International Solar Alliance (ISA) was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then French President Francois Hollande at the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Paris on November 30, 2015. 
    • The idea was to form a coalition of solar resource-rich countries to collaborate on addressing the identified gaps in their energy requirements through a common approach. 
    • Towards this, the ISA has set a target of 1 TW of solar energy by 2030, which current French President Emmanuel Macron said would require $1 trillion to achieve.
    • Its Framework Agreement came into force in December 2017.  
  • China has postponed joint military talks with the US in protest against a US decision to sanction a Chinese military agency and its director for buying Russian fighter jets and a surface-to-air missile system. 
    • Adding that the US had "no right to interfere", China said the Russia deal was a normal act of cooperation between sovereign countries.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the ' Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY)' scheme, deemed as the world's largest government-funded healthcare programme covering over 50 crore beneficiaries. 
    • Describing it as a "game-changer initiative to serve the poor", PM Modi said the scheme is a step towards serving the poor people of the country.

  • India has called off the meeting of the Indian and Pakistani Foreign Ministers scheduled in New York a day after announcing it. 
    • The meeting was proposed by Pakistan's new Prime Minister Imran Khan but was cancelled in protest against the killing of policemen in Kashmir, the mutilation of a BSF jawan's body and issuance of Burhan Wani stamps by Pakistan.
  • Pakistan has invited Saudi Arabia to join the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as the 3rd strategic partner.
    • Note : CPEC, a part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, aims to link Pakistan's Gwadar port with China's Xinjiang.  
  • Amid a rise in rape cases, Nepal has announced a ban on websites with adult content in the country. 
    • Such websites promote sexual violence and perversion, the government said.

  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today announced that the state ranks 1st in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
    • He said that the state has been successful in providing houses to 11 lakh poor families. 
    • In urban areas, this scheme has benefited over 4 lakh families.
