In a recent interview, the Deputy MD of SBI, Prashant Kumar has announced that the State Bank of India has received over 9.75 lakh applications for the position of 2,000 Probationary Oofficers (POs) posts. The bank has also received 16.6 lakh applications for 8,300 clerical level posts.
The competition for each seat of probationary officer comes out to be 500, while for clerks, it is around 200. This means, a person need to beat around 500 candidates to become a PO and around 200 candidates to become Clerk.
"A majority of candidates applying for the clerical position are engineering graduates or those with post-graduate degrees", Mr Kumar revealed. However, he said that acquiring good talent continues to be a challenge. Unlike in the past when the best and brightest chose between administrative services and banks, current graduates feel that there are better opportunities in the private sector.
