  • Judiciary - the part of government that consists of all the judges and courts in a country
  • In-house - done, working, or happening inside a company or organization
  • Impropriety - behaviour that is not honest, professional, or socially acceptable
  • Violate - to do something that is in opposition to a law, agreement, principle etc
  • Restraining order - a legal document from a judge that stops someone from doing something
  • Apex - the top / most important part of something
  • Memorial - something created to honour someone who has died
  • Propriety - behaviour that follows accepted social or moral standards
  • Conduct - behaviour
  • Substance - the fact that something is based on accurate information
  • Allegation - a statement that someone has done something wrong or illegal even though this has not been proved
  • Deviate - to start doing something different from what is expected or agreed
  • Tender - to formally offer something, usually in writing
  • Ignominy - a situation where you feel embarrassed and lose other people’s respect
  • Impeach - to formally accuse a public official of a serious crime relating to their job
  • Pave the way for something - if something paves the way for/to something else, it makes the other thing possible
  • Middlemen - someone who communicates or makes arrangements between two people or groups who are unwilling or unable to meet or deal directly with each other
  • Favourable - giving someone or something an advantage or a benefit
  • Climactic event - a climactic event, moment etc is the most exciting or important one in a series
  • Unprecedented - never having happened or existed before
  • Departed - to not use the usual way of doing something
  • Convention - a way of behaving that is generally accepted as being normal and right
  • Roster - a list of people’s names that shows when each of them must work and what they have to do
  • Sobering - making you think about things in a serious way
  • Cleanse - to get rid of someone or something bad or unpleasant
  • Unwarranted - not fair or necessary
  • Onslaught - an attack
  • Elaborate - used about something that is more complicated than is practical or necessary
  • Cumbersome - not simple, fast, or effective enough and difficult or annoying to use
  • Hasten - to make something happen sooner or more quickly
  • Flagrant - done in an obvious way that shows you do not care if you break rules or offend people
  • Misuse - to use something in the wrong way or for the wrong purpose
  • Partisan - showing strong and usually unfair support for one particular person, group, or idea
  • Undoubtedly - used for saying that something is certainly true or is accepted by everyone
  • Fight shy of something - if you fight shy of something, you do not feel willing to do it because it might cause problems for you
  • Integrity - the quality of behaving according to the rules and standards of your job or profession
  • Chalk something up - to score points, or to achieve success
  • Unwavering - strong and steady despite opposition or other problems
  • Eschew - to avoid doing something
  • Provocative - intended to start arguments between people or to make people angry or upset
  • Lash out - to criticize someone or something angrily
  • Democrat - someone who supports democracy as a political system
  • Immigration - the process in which people enter a country in order to live there permanently
  • Reform - a change that is intended to correct a situation that is wrong or unfair, or make a system work more effectively
  • Shutdown - an occasion when something stops working temporarily
  • Teleprompter - a machine that projects a television performer's script onto a screen that is hidden from the camera
  • Generous - giving people more of your time or money than is usual or expected
  • Bipartisanship - the fact of two political parties that usually oppose each other agreeing or working together
  • Policymaking - the activity of deciding on new policies, especially by a government or political party
  • Rival - a person, team, or business that competes with another
  • Strikingly - in a way that attracts attention by reason of being unusual, extreme, or prominent.
  • Prospective - likely to be or become a particular thing
  • Immigrant - someone who comes to live in a country from another country
  • Reform - a change that is intended to correct a situation that is wrong or unfair, or make a system work more effectively
  • Vow - to promise that you will do something
  • Vet - make a careful and critical examination of (something).
  • Migrant - someone who travels to another place or country in order to find work
  • Stepped up - increased in amount or strength
  • Divergence - a difference in the way that two or more things develop from the same thing
  • Assessment - the process of making a judgment or forming an opinion, after considering something or someone carefully
  • Scenario - a situation that could possibly happen
  • Stark - extreme and obvious
  • Inaugural speech - an inaugural speech is one made by someone to celebrate the start of an important new job
  • Carnage - a situation that is difficult or full of problems
  • Intervening - happening between two events or times
  • Adherence - the action of continuing to obey a rule, law, agreement etc
  • Predecessor - the person who had a job or official position before someone else
  • Revoke - to officially say that something is no longer legal, for example a law or a document
  • Throwaway - a throwaway remark, comment etc is something that you say suddenly and without thinking carefully about it
  • Hawk - a politician who prefers using military force to more peaceful methods
  • Sought-after - wanted by many people but not easy to get
  • Immigration - the process in which people enter a country in order to live there permanently and the rules that control it
  • Mirage - something that seems to be real or true but is not really so
