International Current Affairs
  • Canada's Upper House of Parliament has passed a bill to modify the country's National Anthem in a bid to make it gender-neutral. 
    • The words "thy sons command" in the second line of the anthem will be replaced with "all of us command". 
Books & Authors
  • The cover of PM Narendra Modi's book that addresses ways students can tackle stress during examinations has been released. 
    • Titled 'Exam Warriors', the book is a first-of-its-kind initiative by a serving Prime Minister. 
    • Conceptualised by PM Modi, the book emphasizes why students should prioritise knowledge over marks.
National Current Affairs
  • West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) has won the bypolls for the Lok Sabha constituency of Uluberia and the Assembly seat of Noapara. 
  • Congress candidates have won Ajmer and Alwar parliamentary seats and the Assembly seat for Mandalgarh in the Rajasthan bypolls.
Science & Technology
  • The Indian Navy today launched the third Scorpene class submarine Karanj
    • Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba’s wife Reena Lanba launched the submarine, which has been constructed by shipbuilder Mazagon Dock Limited here.
  • In an initiative to improve India’s weather forecasting, the Ministry of Earth Science (MoES) launched a high performance computer (HPC) system named Mihir.
    • Note : The HPC will be India’s largest in terms of peak capacity and performance and will propel the country’s ranking from the 368th position to the top 30 in list of HPC facilities across the world.
MOUs & Agreements
  • The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Limited (RUMSL) signed a sub-loan agreement for financing the shared infrastructure of two solar power projects in Madhya Pradesh.
  • Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of IT major Infosys, has signed a MoU with the Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation for a grant to create a child-friendly village towards improving children's health, providing education and creating a non-violent environment.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • The government has made Permanent Account Number (PAN) mandatory for any entity conducting financial transactions of ₹2.5 lakh or more. 
  • Australia's Brisbane Airport has announced that it will become the world's first airport to let travellers pay with cryptocurrency like Bitcoin and Ethereum at its terminal shopping areas. 
  • Mobile payments company Paytm and Alibaba Group-owned AGTech Holdings Ltd have formed a joint venture to launch Gamepind, a gaming platform aimed at mobile users in India.
  • The Assam Assembly will introduce Digital budget in its next session, doing away with the traditional printed booklet form practice.
    • The state budget will be presented by Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 12 in a digital format.
Deaths
  • Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart (68), the eldest son of late Cuban revolutionary leader and President Fidel Castro, committed suicide after being suffering from depression.
    • He was a nuclear physicist, trained by the former Soviet Union and had headed Cuba's nuclear programme from 1980 to 1992, before it was suspended due to lack of funds.
Awards & Honors
  • Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi released a postage stamp as a mark of respect to the legendary footballer Dr. Talimeren Ao on the occasion of his birth centenary year.
    • Dr. Talimeren Ao, an ace footballer who was born on January 28, 1918 was instrumental in popularizing football in Assam.
    • He was captain of the Indian Football Team in their first official match in 1948 London Olympics.
  • Kerala Governor and Calicut University Chancellor P. Sathasivam today conferred the D. Litt on Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and veteran athlete P.T. Usha, "the Payyoli Express".
    • Note : The honorary degree was awarded to the two legends after four years since it was first announced.
  • Minister of State (IC) of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jitendra Singh has been conferred with degree of Honorary Doctorate by Amity University in recognition of his lifetime achievements in field of academics, research and public life.
New Appointments
  • The government appointed Errol D’Souza as the new director of IIM, Ahmedabad
    • A V Vellayan, executive chairman of Murugappa Group has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board of Governors (BoG) at IIM Kozhikode.
