SBI Clerk 2018 Coaching Day 4 - Speed, Time and Distance (Shortcuts & Practice Tests)

Hello friends, today we shall learn shortcut tricks about Speed, Time & Distance. This is also one of the important and easiest aptitude topics for banking, insurance and other competitive exams, where you will get a compulsory question. But the problem is, people tend to lose marks in Speed, Time and Distance topic due to negligence. I will explain how this happens. In the exam hall, we will be in a hurry mood to answer as many questions as possible. So we won't read the question properly. You need to check, in WHICH UNITS they asked the answer. Some times they may ask the answer in Kmph, but you get your number in Mps. To confuse you, they will give both the numbers in options. So, instead of converting the units,  we hurriedly mark the option of the families number, still assuming that our answer is correct. So you need to crosscheck the units before marking the answer. Okay, let's get into the details of today's lesson Speed, Time and Distance.  Let's start with basic formulas. Write these down in your notebook. Hope you are already maintaining a separate notebook for these lessons.

Speed, Time and Distance Shortcuts

Speed, Time & Distance Formulas

1. Speed = Distance / Time  [S = D/T]

2. Distance = Speed x Time  [D=S x T]

3. Time = Distance / Speed [T=D/S]

4. The units of speed = Kilometres per hour (Kmph) or Metres per second (Mps).

5. Kmph x (5/18) = Mps

6. Mps x (18/5) = Kmph

7. If two bodies are in movement and their speeds are 'X' units and 'Y' units, the resultant speed (which is called relative speed) is to be taken in the place of 'S in the first three formulas above.

Relative speed is
  • X + Y  if they move in opposite direction
  • X-Y if they move in same direction
8. If a train has to cross any another body, it has to cover a distance which is equal to the sum of its own length and that of the other body which it has to cross and this total is to be taken in the place of 'D' in the first three formulas. In case of the length of the other body is negligible, only the length of the train is to be taken.

SBI Clerk 2018 Coaching Day 3 - Profit and Loss (Shortcuts & Practice Tests)

Hello friends. Today we shall learn the shortcut techniques of Profit and Loss. Happy Reading :)

Profit & Loss Shortcuts

Formulas of Profit and Loss

1. Profit = Selling Price (S.P) - Cost Price (CP), when SP > CP

2. Loss = Cost Price (C.P) - Selling Price (S.P), when SP < CP

3. Profit % = (Profit / CP) x 100

4. Loss % = (Loss / CP) x 100

5. S.P = ((100 + Profit%)/100) x CP

6. S.P = ((100 - Loss%)/100) x CP

7. C.P = (100 / (100 + Profit%)) x SP

8. CP = (100 / (100 - Loss%)) x SP

9. If C.Ps of two articles are the same and after selling them profit % on one is same as the loss % on the other, then there will be no loss or no gain.

10. If SPs of two articles are the same and the profit % on one is same as the loss % on the other, then there will be a loss which is in % = (%x%) / 100

11. Two successive discounts of X% and Y% are equivalent to a single discount % of (X+Y) - ((XxY)/100)

12. Marked Price x Product of the balances of the discounts = Selling price to the seller or Cost price to the buyer.

SBI Clerk 2018 Coaching Day 2 - Time and Work (Shortcuts & Practice Tests)

Hello friends, as some people are asking me to take gap for Compound Interest, I have decided to postpone the lesson on Compound Interest for another day. Today I am sharing a simple and important topic 'Time and Work' with shortcuts. The main advantage of Time and Work problems is, you can easily solve them without even knowing the basic formulas or shortcuts. But the shortcut methods help us solving the problems in less time. Let's start today's lesson.

Time and Work Shortcuts

Time and Work Formulas :

1st of all you need to remember the basic formula,

i.e., Work = Strength x Time

in Simple words, the Work done by you is depends upon the amount of Strength you put on that work and the amount of Time you spent to do that work.

Simple, isn't it ?

Now let's derive some shortcut formulas from this main formula.

Strength x Time = Work

If you send the work to right hand side, then it will become,

(Strength x Time) / Work = 1

This condition will be true for every case, No matter whatever the numbers are given.

So, (SxT)/W will be same for all the cases.  Keep this point in your mind.

Now lets see some more important conditions :

Suppose you badly need Rs. 100/- to buy something. But you don't have that money. So you will ask your friends or somebody else (Say Mr. X) for that money. But why should Mr. X give you the money ? What advantage will he get by giving you the money ?
