International Current Affairs
  • For the first time, India has attended the meeting of International Military Cooperation Departments of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
    • This meeting was held in in Beijing(China).
  • The government of Iran has lifted restrictions on use of Internet, including messaging app Telegram.
    • Note : These restrictions were put after protests against unemployment and rising consumer prices in December 2017.
National Current Affairs
  • The Election Commission has today announced that the polling for legislative assembly elections in Tripura will be held on February 18, while polling in Meghalaya and Nagaland will be held on February 27.
    • The counting for all three states will be held on March 3.
    • EVMs and VVPATs will be used in all three states.
  • The government has announced April 1 as the deadline for the mandatory installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) devices and panic buttons in all passenger transport vehicles, including taxis and buses. 
    • Note : Three-wheelers like e-rickshaws and auto rickshaws have been exempted from the rule.
  • Odisha State Government announced a scheme titled ‘Mukshyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Jojana’ (MMKSJ).
    • Under this scheme, artists from across the state will get a monthly assistance of Rs 1200.
    • This scheme will benefit around 50000 artists from across state.
  • As a part of its policy to 'empower minorities without appeasement', the Indian Government decided to end Haj subsidy from this year.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Private sector lender HDFC Bank became the first Indian bank to cross ₹5 trillion (about $78 billion) market capitalisation
    • The bank is also only the third Indian company to achieve this milestone after Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Reliance Industries. 
  • Bank of Baroda tied up with Digital invoice discounting marketplace Invoicemart, as TReDS (Trade Receivables Electronic Discounting System) partner.
    • TReDS is an online platform through which, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) can access funds for working capital without hassle of applying for loans. 
    • Invoicemart is a joint venture between Axis Bank and mjunction services.
  • The government has announced that it has reduced additional borrowing target for this fiscal by 60% to ₹20,000 crore from the earlier announced ₹50,000 crore. 
  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today reiterated that all 14 designs of ₹10 coin are legal tender for transactions
    • RBI added that these coins are issued from time to time and have distinctive features reflecting various themes of economic, social, and cultural values.
Science & Technology
  • India today test-fired the nuclear-capable inter-continental ballistic missile Agni-V, whose range includes the northernmost part of China. 
    • The missile has a range of 5,000 km and is capable of carrying nuclear or traditional warhead of about 1.5 tonnes. 
    • It has been successfully tested four times before and may be inducted into the Strategic Forces Command (SFC).
  • The government is going to set up a ₹2,200-crore fund to finance solar projects to achieve its target of having 175 GW in renewable energy by 2022.
    • India's current installed renewable power capacity is about 60 GW and it plans to complete the bidding process by the end of 2019-20 to add a further 115 GW by 2022.

  • Bengaluru-headquartered mobile advertising startup InMobi has appointed investment banker Marc Steifman as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Sports Current Affairs
  • Virat Kohli has been named the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ODI Cricketer of the Year
    • He has also been named the captain of Men's ODI and Test Teams of the Year.
    • World's top-ranked Test batsman Steve Smith has been named ICC's Test Cricketer of the Year.
    • England's woman cricketer Anya Shrubsole won the ICC Spirit of Cricket award for consoling South African captain Dane van Niekerk, after England's semi-final victory in the 2017 Women's World Cup. 
  • Retired wrestling superstar and former UGA defensive lineman Bill Goldberg will be inducted into World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Fame.
  • Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore launched official anthem and mascot of Khelo India School Games, beginning January 31.

  • Mohit Gupta from Haryana's Karnal has topped the all-India Chartered Accountancy final exam with a score of 587 out of 800 (73.38%).
