International Current Affairs
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will be on a 6 Day visit to India from Tomorrow. 
    • Mr Netanyahu will meet PM Narendra Modi on 15th January for delegation level talks.  
National Current Affairs
  • The 4th ASEAN-INDIA Ministerial Meeting on Agriculture and Forestry was held at NASC Complex, New Delhi.
    • Representatives from 10 ASEAN countries have been attended to this meeting.
    • The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Radha Mohan Singh and Thailand’s Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Grisada Boonrach.
    • Topic of discussion : Food and agricultural future developments.
  • To help plan traffic flows and optimize freight operations, the Union Ministry of Railways has launched an application titled SFOORTI.
    • This app will help Freight Managers to monitor and manage freight business using Geographic Information System (GIS) views and dashboard.

  • The 4th International Dharma-Dhamma Conference on “State and Social Order in Dharma-Dhamma Traditions” was recently held at Rajgir in Nalanda district, Bihar. 
    • This conference was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind.
    • The event was organised as part of commemorative events to celebrate Silver Jubilee (25) year of ASEAN-India Dialogue Partnership. 
Recent Committees in News
  • The Election Commission (EC) has constituted 14 member committee to suggest changes to Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (RP Act) in view of social media expansion.
    • Head of this Committee : Umesh Sinha (Chief Election Commissioner)
    • About Section 126 of RP Act, 1951 :
    • This section prohibits displaying any election matter by means of television or similar apparatus, during the period of 48 hours before the hour fixed for conclusion of poll in a constituency. 
MOUs & Agreements
  • India has signed an MoU with the UK to enable the return of illegal Indian immigrants within a month of their detection.
    • Both the countries also agreed to share criminal records. 
    • Note : Indians constitute the largest number of illegal immigrants living in the UK.
  • The Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation has signed an MoU with Bihar and Jharkhand for completion of balance works of North Koel reservoir project.
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • According to a recently released report of the National Family Health Survey, Delhi  is the richest state of India. 
    • According to this survey, Bihar is India's poorest state.
    • The survey also revealed that Jains are the richest religious community. 
Science & Technology
  • After serving the Navy for 30 and 28 years respectively, Indian Navy has decommissioned INS Nirbhik and INS Nirghat warships at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai (Maharashtra).
    • The ships, belonging to the Killer squadron, are inheritors of a proud legacy as their original avatars were flag bearers of the naval offencive action on Karachi harbour during the India-Pakistan war in 1971.  
    • They participated in many operations including Operation Parakram and Vijay and were deployed off Gujarat on many occasions for patrolling.
  • China today successfully launched two BeiDou-3 satellites to provide navigation and positioning services to countries along Belt and Road initiative (BRI) by the end of 2018.
    • The two satellites were designated as BeiDou-3 M7 and BeiDou-3 M8 (26th and 27th satellites) in BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS).
  • Nepal has started accessing internet from China after commercial operation of Nepal-China optical fibre link via Rasuwagadhi gateway across Himalayan Mountains became operational.
    • This project now ends Nepal’s sole dependence on India for internet bandwidth.
    • Both revenue wise and strategically, it is a big loss for India.
Sports Current Affairs
  • The five days Ice Hockey Tournament 2018 concluded today at Goshan International Ice Hockey Rink, Drass in Jammu & Kashmir.
    • The Cup was lifted by Goshan A by 2 Goals defeating Himalayan B. 
    • The tournament was organized by District Police Kargil under Civic Action Programme in which more than 11 teams from all over Kargil Participated.
  • Indian tennis player Ramkumar Ramanathan wins 2nd round qualifying match beating France's Gleb Sakharov at Australian Open qualifiers in Melbourne.
