    • The 10th Global Forum for Food & Agriculture was recently held in Berlin (Germany).
      • India was represented by Minister of State (MoS) for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
      • Theme of 10th Global Forum for Food & Agriculture 2018 : "Shaping the future of livestock – sustainably, responsibly, efficiently". 
    • The US government has officially shut down after the Senate failed to agree on a bill to fund the government until February 16, causing the fourth government shutdown in 25 years. 
      • The shutdown means many government services will close down until a new budget is agreed. 
      • However, essential services including national security and disaster assistance will continue to run.
    • In a move aimed at promoting Indian traditions abroad, India is going to offer Yoga training sessions at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. 
      • Important Points to Note :
      • More than 70 heads of states are expected to attend the WEF Summit next week. 
      • PM Narendra Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to attend the summit in 21 years.

    • Former Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel will be appointed as the Governor of Madhya Pradesh

    India wins Blind Cricket World Cup 2018 by beating Pakistan

    Defending champions India defeated Pakistan by 2 wickets to clinch the 5th Blind Cricket World Cup 2018 in Sharjah today. This is India's second consecutive win.

    Batting first, Pakistan scored 308 for the loss of eight wickets in allocated 40 overs after they were sent into bat first by India who won the toss. In response, India reached the target in penultimate over with two wickets remaining. India's Sunil Ramesh scored 93 while Ajay Reddy hammered a knock of 62.

    This is India’s second consecutive title win in the Blind Cricket World Cup. Pakistan has also won the title twice while South Africa won the title once.

      • Important Points to Note
      • In 2016, India had joined the Missile Technology Control Regime, aimed at restricting missile proliferation. 
      • Last year, India joined the Wassenaar Arrangement, which controls export of conventional weapons.

    • For the first time, India has attended the meeting of International Military Cooperation Departments of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
      • This meeting was held in in Beijing(China).
    • The government of Iran has lifted restrictions on use of Internet, including messaging app Telegram.
      • Note : These restrictions were put after protests against unemployment and rising consumer prices in December 2017.
    National Current Affairs
    • The Election Commission has today announced that the polling for legislative assembly elections in Tripura will be held on February 18, while polling in Meghalaya and Nagaland will be held on February 27.
      • The counting for all three states will be held on March 3.
      • EVMs and VVPATs will be used in all three states.
    • The government has announced April 1 as the deadline for the mandatory installation of Global Positioning System (GPS) devices and panic buttons in all passenger transport vehicles, including taxis and buses. 
      • Note : Three-wheelers like e-rickshaws and auto rickshaws have been exempted from the rule.
    • Odisha State Government announced a scheme titled ‘Mukshyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Jojana’ (MMKSJ).
      • Under this scheme, artists from across the state will get a monthly assistance of Rs 1200.
      • This scheme will benefit around 50000 artists from across state.
    • As a part of its policy to 'empower minorities without appeasement', the Indian Government decided to end Haj subsidy from this year.

    IDFC Bank is going to merge with Capital First

    Indian banking company IDFC Bank Ltd today announced a merger with the Mumbai based non-banking financial company Capital First. The merger between these two organizations will form a combined entity with assets under management of Rs 88,000 crore, branch network of 194 and customer base of over 5 million. 

    The present Chairman and MD of Capital First, V Vaidyanathan will be the new MD and CEO of the combined entity upon completion of the merger and necessary regulatory approvals. The Chief Financial Officer of IDFC Limited, Bipin Gemani, will now be the interim CFO of IDFC Bank.
    As per the agreement, the swap ratio has been fixed at 139:10. This means the IDFC Bank will issue 139 shares for every 10 shares of Capital First. 

    In a press statement, the bank said this announcement is pursuant to IDFC Bank's stated strategy of ‘retailising’ its business to complete their transformation from a dedicated infrastructure financier to a well-diversified universal bank, and in line with Capital First’s stated intention and strategy to convert to a universal bank.

    ISRO Successfully launches its 100th Satellite - Important Highlights

    The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today achieved a major milestone by successfully launching it's 100th satellite from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. Four months after it's failed launch of  IRNSS-1H (India's first privately built satellite) on 31st August 2017, ISRO today successfully placed Cartosat-2 Series and 30 other satellites in orbit. This is ISRO’s 42nd mission. ISRO’s trusted workhorse ‘PSLV-C40’ carried the satellites. Here are the important highlights of ISRO's 100th satellite launch.

    SSC CGL (Tier I ) 2017 Revised Result out

    Friends, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the Revised results of SSC Combined Graduate Level (Tier-I) Exam 2017. The result of Tier-I of CGLE, 2017 was declared on 30th October 2017 after considering representations of the candidates and finalization of Answer Keys. However, it was discovered that due to a technical glitch, a few tentative Answer Keys had not been revised.

    The Commission, therefore, undertook a comprehensive review. Based on the comprehensive review undertaken by the Commission, there has been a lowering in the cut off marks which has resulted in the revision of the result.

    Paytm sets up new Investment and Wealth Management unit - Paytm Money

    Indian payments platform Paytm today announced setting up of its investment and wealth management division titled Paytm Money Limited. Paytm Money is a wholly owned subsidiary of One97 Communications (the parent company of Paytm). Paytm Money will deal in money market fund where users would be able to store cash and earn interest. Paytm Money will be an entirely technology-led digital product without any offline presence.

    Paytm Money will be headed by Pravin Jadhav as senior vice-president. Jadhav previously worked with Rediff and social networking site Wishberg.

    At present, Paytm Money is setting up its operations in Bengaluru and looking to seek regulatory approvals from SEBI to commence operations.
