  • Bail-in - the process of saving a bank by making it use up its internal resources first
  • Resolution - a formal proposal that is considered by an organization and is usually voted on at a meeting
  • Proposed - offered formally as an idea or plan
  • Allay - if you allay feelings such as fears, worries, or doubts, you make someone feel less afraid, worried, or full of doubt
  • Clause - a part of a legal document or law that officially states that something must be done
  • Anxiety - a worried feeling you have because you think something bad might happen
  • Bail out - to help a person or organization that is having problems, especially financial problems
  • Haircut - a reduction in the amount of debt that will be paid back to an institution that has lent a lot of money
  • Insolvency - the situation in which a company or person does not have enough money to pay what they owe
  • Bankruptcy - a situation in which a business or a person officially admits that they have no money and cannot pay what they owe
  • Collapse - to suddenly fail or stop existing
  • Write-down - a reduction in the value of the assets that a company owns
  • Purportedly - as appears or is stated to be true, though not necessarily so
  • Aftermath - the effects and results of something bad or important
  • Liquidate - to close a business and sell everything that it owns, usually in order to pay money that is owed
  • Out of the woods - not having a problem or difficulty any longer
  • Necessitate - to make something necessary
  • Regime - a system of rules that control something
  • On the verge of something - about to do something or experience something
  • Crisis - an urgent, difficult, or dangerous situation
  • Vital - very important, necessary, or essential
  • Salvage - to succeed in achieving something in a situation or action that has been a failure
  • Thrust - to push suddenly and strongly
  • Demonetisation - to officially stop using particular notes or coins, or a particular currency
  • Rationale - the set of reasons that something such as a plan or belief is based on
  • Enhance - to improve something
  • Dispensation - official permission to do something that people are not normally allowed to do

  • Crisis - an extremely difficult or dangerous point in a situation
  • Brink - a point at which something, typically something unwelcome, is about to happen
  • Famine - a serious lack of food that continues for a long time and causes many people in a country to become ill or die
  • Ceasefire - an agreement to stop fighting for a period of time, especially in order to discuss permanent peace
  • Ally - a country that makes an agreement with another country that they will work together to help each other, especially in a war
  • Tragedy - a very sad event that causes people to suffer or die
  • Massive - very large or heavy
  • Outbreak - the sudden start of war, disease, violence etc
  • Breakdown - a situation in which something has failed or is beginning to fail
  • Crumbling - to stop existing or being effective
  • Misery - the state of being extremely unhappy or uncomfortable
  • Aerial - taking place in the air
  • Bombardment - an attack on a place made by dropping bombs from planes or by firing large guns for a long time
  • Breeding ground - a situation or place in which bad things can easily begin to develop
  • Extremist - someone who has beliefs or opinions that are considered to be extremely unreasonable by most people
  • Peninsula - a long piece of land that is mostly surrounded by water, but is joined at one end to a larger area of land
  • Legitimate - fair and reasonable
  • Plunge into something - to suddenly get into a particular state or situation
  • Chaos - a situation in which everything is confused and in a mess
  • Rebel - someone who tries to remove a government or leader using force
  • Militia - a group of ordinary people who are trained as soldiers to fight in an emergency
  • Coalition - a temporary union of different political parties that agree to form a government together
  • Desperate - needing or wanting something very much
  • Blockade - an official action that is intended to prevent people or goods from moving from one place to another
  • Diverse - very different from each other
  • Populace - the people who live in a particular country or area
  • Loyalist - someone who supports their government, especially during a revolution
  • Coalition - a temporary union of different political parties that agree to form a government together
  • Escalate - to become much worse or more serious
  • Civil war - a war fought between different groups of people within the same country
  • Cease - to stop happening or continuing
  • Set the stage for something - to create the conditions in which something is likely to happen
  • Faction - a small group within a larger group, consisting of people with different opinions from the rest
