International Current Affairs
  • The United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities is being observed today.
    • The day is an annual event promoted by the United Nations since 1992. 
    • The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.
    • Theme for IDPD 2017 : "Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all"
  • Ajeya Warrior- 2017’ aCombined Military exercise  between India and the UK was recently held at Mahajan Field Firing Range near Bikaner, Rajasthan
    • This was the 3rd joint military exercise between India and UK. 
    • The first  held in 2013 at Belgaum, Karnataka and second exercise was held in 2015 in UK.
  • The European Parliament has passed a resolution calling for a ban on arms sale to Saudi Arabia over its role in Yemen's civil war. 
  • Iranian President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated the 1st phase of the Chabahar port, opening up a new strategic transit route between Iran, India and Afghanistan, bypassing Pakistan.
  • External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj today made a stopover at Tehran on her way back from Russia, and held a luncheon meeting with her Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif during which issues of mutual interests were discussed.
    • Note : Swaraj was returning from the Russian city of Sochi where she attended the annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
National Current Affairs
  • The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched the National Strategic Plan 2017-24.
    • Aim : To eradicate HIV/AIDS by 2030. 
  • The 22nd meeting of Board of Mangement (BOM) of Small Farmers’ Agri-Business Consortium (SFAC) was recently held at New Delhi. 
    • This meeting was chaired by Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh.
    • Various activities of SFAC were reviewed during meeting.
    • About SFAC :
    • It is an autonomous society promoted by Union Ministry of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers’ Welfare.
    • Established in 1994.
  • President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated 18th edition of the Hornbill Festival at the Naga Heritage Village in Kisama, Nagaland. 
    • Hornbill Festival, also known as the ‘Festival of Festivals’, is tourism promotional extravaganza to revive, protect and preserve the richness and uniqueness of Naga heritage.
  • The 7th edition Kathakar: International Storytellers Festival was recently held at Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi
    • It was inaugurated by Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju.
  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted the Regional Level Marine Oil Pollution Response Exercise named ‘Clean Sea-2017’ at sea off Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
    • The objective of exercise was to ascertain preparedness of IGC, resource agencies and other stakeholders in responding to major oil spill in line with provisions of National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOS-DCP).
Science & Technology
  • The world's first Short Message Service or SMS was sent by software programmer Neil Papworth from a computer 25 years ago today. 
    • The text, which was sent to a colleague on December 3, 1992, read "Merry Christmas". 
MOUs & Agreements
  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has entered into two bilateral Advance Pricing Agreements (APAs) with The Netherlands.
    • These two APAs pertain to the Electronics and Technology sectors of the economy. 
    • The international transactions covered in these agreements include distribution, provision of marketing support services, provision of business support services among others. 
    • Note : These Agreements are the first ever Bilateral APAs with The Netherlands.
  • India and Spain have signed Techno-commercial agreement to provide institutional mechanism for mutual cooperation in field of urban transport and for construction of the three Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
  • India and Singapore have signed Bilateral Agreement for Navy Cooperation that will allow Indian Navy ships logistical support, including refuelling at Singapore’s Changi Naval Base located near disputed South China Sea (SCS).
Awards & Honors
  • India was awarded certificate of commendation for its effort to combat illegal wildlife trade by Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
    • The award was given to Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) for its efforts in conducting and coordinating species-specific wildlife enforcement operation, codenamed ‘Operation Save Kurma’. 
Sports Current Affairs
  • Indian skipper Virat Kohli becomes first batsman to score Six double centuries as Test captain.
    • He scored 200 off 238 balls on the second day of the ongoing Test against Sri Lanka.
  • India’s Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won Gold medal at World Weightlifting Championships held in Anaheim, United States. 
    • She achieved this feat by lifting new world record of 194kg – 85kg snatch and 109kg clean-and-jerk in the 48 kg weight category.
  • Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw has been picked to lead India’s Under-19 team at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018. 
    • India U-19 Team : Prithvi Shaw (Captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Manjot Kalra, Himanshu Rana, Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Aryan Juyal (wicket-keeper), Harvik Desai (wicket-keeper), Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ishan Porel, Arshdeep Singh, Anukul Roy, Shiva Singh, Pankaj Yadav
    • The list of standby players : Om Bhosle, Rahul Chahar, Ninad Rathva, Urvil Patel and Aditya Thakare.
