International Current Affairs
  • India was selected as Chair of Ad Hoc Committee on Review & Reforms to look into various issues pertaining to the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPSC) at recently held KP Plenary Session in Brisbane, Australia.
    • Note : Angola will be the Vice Chair of this Adhoc Committee.
  • The 11th edition of Naseem-Al-Bahr (Sea Breeze) 2017 Naval exercise between India and Oman was held at Said Bin Sultan Naval Base, Wudam in Oman.
  • The World's Longest Glass Bridge, located in China's Hebei province, opened for the public today.
  • India is set to get its 1st sea bridge runway after the approval to extend the Agatti Airport in Lakshadweep has been given to Airports Authority of India (AAI). 
MOUs & Agreements
  • With an aim to combat black money, India has signed agreement with Switzerland for automatic sharing of tax-related information from January 1, 2018 .
National Current Affairs
  • National Consumers Day / National Consumers Right Day is being observed today with the objective of providing better protection of consumer’s interest.
    • This day is being observed since the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was enacted on this day in 1986.
    • Theme of the year 2017 :  “Emerging Digital Markets: Issues & Challenges for Consumer Protection
  • The Union Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has launched an outreach mission titled SAMEEP (Students and MEA Engagement Program). 
    • Aim of SAMEEP : To take Indian foreign policy and its global engagements to students across India.
  • To attract domestic and foreign investment for highways projects, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has created National Highways Investment Promotion Cell (NHIPC).
    • This cell will focus on engaging with global institution investors, developers, construction companies and fund managers for building investor participation in road infrastructure projects.
  • The World University of Design (WUD) has opened its campus at Sonipat, Haryana. 
    • Note : This is India’s first and only design university.
  • The Union Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation has formally launched ‘Ganga Gram’ project at the Ganga Gram Swachata Sammelan held in New Delhi.
    • The project was launched under the clean Ganga mission-Namami Gange Programme for holistic sanitation development in villages on the banks of River Ganga.
New Appointments
  • Former senior US government official Henrietta H Fore has been appointed as the new Executive Director (ED) of the United Nations Childrens' Fund (UNICEF).
  • BJP's veteran leader and five-time MLA Jairam Thakur has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
Science & Technology
  • An Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) named ICGS Sujay was recently commissioned into Indian Coast Guard (ICG)
    • It is sixth and last in the series of six 105m OPV built indigenously by Goa Shipyard Limited for ICG. 
Banking, Business & Economic Affairs
  • Budget carrier IndiGo has become the first Indian airline to operate over 1,000 daily flights across its domestic and international network. 
  • The Union Ministry of Communications has launched a programme titled DARPAN (Digital Advancement of Rural Post Office for A New India) to improve quality of service, add value to services and achieve financial inclusion of un-banked rural population.
    • DARPAN is Information Technology (IT) modernisation project aimed at realising financial inclusion of un-banked rural population. It offers core banking services to the account holders.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Indian professional boxer and Olympic Bronze medalist Vijender Singh defeated Ghana's Ernest Amuzu at the Rajasthan Rumble to defend his WBO Oriental and Asia Pacific Super middleweight titles with 10th successive vistory.
  • India's double Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar became the most expensive wrestler in the Pro Wrestling League after being sold to Delhi Sultans for ₹55 lakh in PWL's player auction.
