Daily Current Affairs of 29th December 2017

    National Current Affairs
    • The Lok Sabha passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017.
      • This bill criminalises the instant Triple Talaq.
    • About Instat Triple Talaq :
      • Talaq / Divorce in Islam is of 3 types. They are, Talaq-e-Ahsan,  Talaq-e-Hassan and Talaq-e-Biddat.
      • Talaq-e-Ahsan : The husband gives talaq to wife (in a single sentence). Once the husband pronounces talaq, there has to be a three-month iddat period to factor in three menstrual cycles of the woman. This time is meant for reconciliation and arbitration. During this period, if any kind cohabitation occurs, the talaq is considered to have been revoked.
      • Talaq-e-Hassan : There must be 3 successive pronouncements of talaq, but three pronouncements are to be made in 3 successive tuhrs (in case of menstruating women) or consecutive intervals of 30 days (in case of non-menstruating women). It can be revoked anytime before the third pronouncement
      • Talaq-e-Biddat / Instant Triple Talaq : Allows men to pronounce talaq thrice in one sitting, sometimes scrawled in a written talaqnama, or even by phone or text message. Thereafter, even if the man himself perceives his decision to have been hasty in hindsight, the divorce remains irrevocable.
