International Current Affairs
  • First phase of parliamentary and provincial elections in Nepal has been completed today.
    • These elections are being held for the first time since 1999. 
  • India is going to host 36th International Geological Congress (IGC) in 2020 at NCR New Delhi from 2nd to 8th March 2017.  
    • Theme of this event : "Geosciences: The Basic Science for a Sustainable Future".
National Current Affairs
  • India observes its 'Constitution Day' today.
    • Aim : To spread the importance of the Indian Constitution and to remember the architect of constitution Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.
    • It was on this day in 1949 that the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution. 
    • The Constitution, however, came into force on January 26, 1950, which is celebrated as the country's Republic Day
  • Today is National Milk Day.
    • We observe this day to mark 96th birth anniversary of Dr.Verghese Kurien.
    • Kurien is fondly known as the Father of White Revolution in India.
    • He is the founder of dairy firm Amul.
    • Important Note : India is the world's largest milk producing country, with 16 percent of total global production, followed by America, China, Pakistan and Brazil.
  • 9th anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks observed today.
    • On this day in 2008, ten Pakistani terrorists had arrived by sea route and opened fire indiscriminately at people killing 166, including 18 security personnel, and injuring several others, besides damaging property worth crores of rupees. 
    • The attack had begun on 26 November and lasted until 29 November.
    • The then Maharashtra ATS Chief Hemant Karkare, army Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Mumbai's Additional Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte and Senior Police Inspector Vijay Salaskar were among those killed.
    • Ajmal Kasab was the only terrorist who was captured alive, he was hanged four years later on November 21, 2012.
  • The Madhya Pradesh government has approved a resolution to award Death Sentence to rape convicts in cases where the victims are girls aged 12 years and below
  • President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the International Gita Mahotsav 2017 in Kurukshetra, Haryana. 
    • The objective behind Mahotsav is to spread the message of Gita to world.
  • The 12th meeting of Standing Committee of Inter-State Council was held in New Delhi. 
    • The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the recommendations of the Punchhi Commission on Centre-state relations. 
    • The meeting was chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Science & Technology
  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch first solar mission Aditya-L1 in the year 2019.
    • It will be India’s first dedicated scientific mission to study sun.
  • China has successfully launched remote sensing satellites designed to conduct electromagnetic probes and other experiments.
    • The satellites whose numbers were not specified yet were launched on board of Long March-2C rocket from Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwestern Sichuan province.
Sports Current Affairs
  • Gopi Thonakal became the 1st Indian man to win the Asian Marathon Championship after he clinched the Gold medal in the 16th edition of the event today.  
  • Maharashtra-based MMA fighter Bharat Kandare became the first-ever Indian to fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)
